Forums - Website Topics - INFURIATING Adverts

I' sorry to post a complaint, but it really has to be done.

I don't know whether this applies just for people in the UK, maybe if you access this website from outside the UK it's different. However, I have come across a couple of really INFURIATING adverts on this site.

One of them is a flashing one, and it's called 'The Fart Button' or something along those lines, and although I'm not epileptic or anything, it's still really annyoing when you see it out of the corner of your eye, when browsing the Website.

Another INFURIATING advert is the mosquito one. Visually I couldn't care less, however if I'm listening to stuff on my computer, and therefore have the speakers on, I get a *constant* mosquito buzzing noise. This noise gets louder, the more tabs I open (which have the advert) and the only way to stop the noise is to 'zap the mosquito', and as my PC that I use to surf the internet, as it were, isn't really that good, I don't want to be using its limited resources to click on an advert, instead, I have to turn my speakers off/mute them, which is a large inconvenience.

Is there a possibility of getting thse adverts changed, or at least less annoying? Also has anyone else experienced this?

Ads pay for the site, and there's a lot of sites with the annoying mosquito one...

I would just refresh the page, chances are a different ad will show up on refresh.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I have done that on occasions, but it just makes browsing this site annyoing at times. Also, this is the first time I've come across the mosquito one...

that and the one with the guy in his underwear.

Ads help pay for sites, but honestly the ads on this site are terrible. I just turn adblock on now.

If adsense or something similar was used I'd be more than happy to turn adblock off for this site. But those ads are just terrible and I am simply not interested in clicking any of them no matter how much they flash and make noises at me. And I will not apologise for using adblock.

Yeah I'm using Firefox, although I'm not really sure how to block adverts, I have an adblock ad-on installed, but either I haven't worked out how to use it, or it doesnt work. Should it work automatically?

Firefox with the Adblock extension can block most ads. You need to train it though to block ads from certain domains. In my browser you can access Adblock's preferences under Tools>Adblock. In the new filter box you can block images from domains containing certain keywords by typing *doubleclick, *bluestreak, *promotions etc... Any image that contains these keywords will be blocked. You can overdo it though and end up blocking some useful stuff. You'll be surprised how a small selection of keywords can eliminate a lot of the annoying flash ads.

just install filterset.g updater add-on and you never even have to think about it.

Sick of adverts? Go download Firefox 2 and then get the Adblock Plus extension and you will never see an advert again. The addon says it blocks %99.99 of adverts and I believe. As an added plus, you can also block the annoying pictures in peoples sigs.

-edit-

whoops. people talking about the glory of Adblock before me.  Still though, it's great.  I didn't have to train mine except for  the first time you use it you pick your region and blocking random pictures I just don't want to see.

The reason I use advert isn't because of random little adds that advertise Everest College or just simple adds, I use it because all the advert companies started using the ones like the Mosquito add and the dating adds that are borderline porn.

When I'm browsing I really don't want hear random sounds and I don't want to see borderline porn (especially if I'm at work or any other public place) and the fact that companies do keep changing the name so you can't stop seeing those adverts and the simple fact they exist is why I use Adblock. If it wasn't for those two type of adds, I would have no problems with adverts, I'll even tolerate popups as long as they aren't excessive, but those ones just cross the lines.

If your site truly is worried about losing the funding because of things like that, make the company listen. I hope it does become an internet wide problem because those adds really are just getting ridiculous.
