Didn't they already try this by saying the Wii is not in competition with the PS3? Damnit Sony, can't you at least come up with new lame excuses?

psp does have better rated games on average than the Ds but still the last game i played on my psp was CCFF7, itll probably stay that way for a while. When I had my Ds i carried them both becuz the ds games were fun and the psp games were fun too but the psp also was my primary music player so i saw them differentll. I only gave my ds to my lil cuzin recently becuz i want a new one.

grafix and sounds to matter in a gaming machine. if it didnt then there would have been no need for nintendo, sega, sony, and microsoft to develop more powerful machines which can render better graphics and output better sounds. through out gaming history, graphics and sound has always been improved with every new game console. you may argue that the wii is currently kicking both the x360 and ps3's asses and it is the least most powerful machine of the three. but take note, wii graphcis and sound capabilities are > gc (though i dont know by how much as i dont have a wii). now functionality does really matter for a gaming machine if gaming is all your looking for. but if our on a budget or you have a limitiation in space, having an all in one device would be a nice addition. as for gaming, i say, to each his own. those who prefer the psp over the ds obviously like the psp games better and those who perfer the ds would obviously prefer ds games better.

It doesn't matter too much in a handheld console. If that was the case not too many people would buy the gameboy because it had no color, and not too many would buy the ds. I agree about the games part, but that is a persons opinion and shouldn't be used as if they were facts. Also none of it was relevant to this thread and it was off topic.
i hate playing games on the psp, even when the game is great ala God OF war , the stupid controller gets on my nerves, and the battery, oh my god the battery.

Actually if you look at the number of games over 80 on gamerankings the psp has 2 more games rated over 80, and the ds has 1 more game than the psp rated over 90. So I would say they are about equal in that area, but the ds' library is more diverse, and is getting more support in the future than the psp.
Yea they would say that if the distance between them was that great. I'm sure MS and Nintendo would have love to had said that in the 6th generation haha.
But this is the true definition of in denial cop out.
Sure the PSP is used in other ways but it's goal was to compete with the DS and to get gamers since it is called a handheld console.
Now that they see they don't have that much third party support they try to fool people into believing that it's not competing with the DS.
I can see it works with some people already.
P.S. I love my PSP but I really can't help but laugh at Sony's strategy this gen. They don't seem to be sure what they're doing and don't stop contradicting themselves.

That's the thing, though, man: that article did not claim otherwise. I read the article and was like...in a way, this is all true. One could receive the words negatively or positively as one chooses.
I own both. They're good at different things.

The goal was to make money with a portable console. The DS was just a feature of the landscape: the possible competition that was already out there. In a way, though, I think Sony is right -- and I think that Nintendo says something similar with the Wii -- that the respective consoles/handhelds do not have identical markets, though there IS a lot of overlap, and most of us are evidence of that.
Agreed, though: Sony has had sort of a scattered, schitzophrenic approach this gen. I do like all the firmware improvements on PSP and PS3, though.

There is a lot more to gaming though sound and graphics. You don't need sound and graphics for cerebral games like brain training or tetris, yet they will be amongst the best selling games of all time.
Also, for a portable things like battery life, size, form factor, durability and other features are just as important as graphics and sound.
Where to start...
It's so sad that people have to manufacture bad news about a company on the week of one of the biggest releases this year, rather than just being happy for them and moving on.
It's a damn shame.
