I made an account about 8 months ago, which got screwed up. I made a new account a few weeks ago. So for awhile I didn't have an account, but after about 2 weeks I stopped coming to the site when I couldn't post.
Ioi- I didn't rejoin right away becuse every time I had VG send out an email, it failed. Had to make like 4 different email adresses to be able to sign up for VG chartz.

The community is full of a lot of mature and sophisticated posters, which is very unusual amongst most popular video game related sites. It can be a bit intimidating at first if you're looking to join it from a casual standpoint.
I actually wanted to join because I just couldn't stand just reading the really interesting threads without getting a word in it. It was like not releasing anger or emotion. Since mgs4 just came out, i figured "hey why not" so I finally signed up.

I lurked as I was only interested in the numbers. I started to enjoy the forums and came across a thread I had to have my say on, so I joined. I still posted very little for a few months but the excellent community on this site dragged me in.
EDIT: It was also my first online community and tried to learn how I should act so as not to offend other members.
off topic forums made me join mostly, i really love the humor of this site, a lot of users are just too funny.

Yea, I think the forum is what inspires most to join when there's an interesting thread that inspires some lurkers to sign up.
That said... flaming threads sometime also contribute, lol.
