Forums - Sony - Sony's Next (Wii-type) Controller?

Id guess, as seeing that it was prototyped in 2006, its probably been buried. I wonder if it was due to some sort of patent infringement they later discovered.

Seems like it'd be awkard to hold a half a DS controller in each hand since it was designed to be held together but i'll hold off on criticizing that too much until I try it.

I think more so than the waggle with accelerometers Sony should find a way to get an IR camera in it to use as a pointer. Whenever people make fun of Wii games and call them gimmicks they are thinking of the excessive waggle some developers love to abuse. But using the IR as a pointer in shooters is a tremendous improvement over dual analogs and would be real fun to play with.

Confused??

Can't you do all this with the Wii mote + Nunchuck already?

God I hate the Wii.

Oh, Sony is doing a motion controller now? Wow that looks pretty cool my eyes have been opened to the possibilities

It's a neat concept, but lacks a pointer function and the same versitily of the Wii's settup. It's definitly more appealing to gamers warry of the Wii's radical design and looking more for a compromise though, a transition from the normal to the new.

Looks like Six-Axis and Rumble are going to be even tougher for this controller.

Honestly this looks more like a rip off of the Xbox's new rumored Motion Controller than the Wii's.

Exactly. The Wiimote was the biggest gimmick ever and sucked super monkey balls... but now that Sony's rumored to have something similar in the works, such a controller is now the greatest thing since sliced bread!

If that's the new romured controller.... If it has rumble I will buy it. Looks like an awesome idea to me.

4 ≈ One

Looks cool.

At least this is one controller you don`t have to go `well, I wish I had GC controller for this game, because it works a lot better than the control right now`.

hybrid is definitely the way of future.

No, Sony, keep to what you do best - hardcore games, graphics and free online.

MGS4!

Nintendo originally worked on break apart controllers but they decided to go for the more freindly looking TV remote look. I like the modular design now as it allows for cheap periphials that can add to the game experience at the same time there are also advantages to the break apart design.

I doubt this is real though. Knowing Sony they would probably go for dual pointers, dual shaking, dual analog, dual rumble, and proabably dual speakers.
