Forums - Sales - Dispelling the myth: Third-parties, big profits, and the Wii

Lol.
Majesco went near bankrupt cause "big budget project" mentality. Project like Psychonaut flopped hard.
Then came Nintendo DS and low budget profile title.
Then they found a gold mine with Coocking Mama and started a long recovery that pass throught the Wii too.

Without Nintendo platform's new way of thinking that american publisher will be out of business.

Should I just...get rid of this?

Hard to say... it's kinda funny when people state threads and as their only proof use something that's the basic antithesis to the point they are trying to make.

Usually only happens with things like Physics.

People laughed at me when I orginally posted this story, but Tantalus is the most successful and financially stable game developer in Australia.

And for the record, I'm not making any claims that all developers will be so successful. I'm just providing contrast to Majesco.

Nice except the company hasn't even released a Wii title yet (which is what this thread is about...).

Not to mention that the "article" reads like a 3 year old blogger wrote it, and all of the anti-Wii articles I've read lately come from gameindustry.biz, who aren't big Wii fans to begin with.

That is of course setting aside the even greater argument that this is basically a duplicate topic of the other one Legend made.

I'll go over his brief history:

Legend made quite a name for himself a few months ago when he began posting all the negative Wii news he could get his hands on. He started the whole "Don't post negative articles about Microsoft" complaint from one of the mods, because Wii fanboys were posting anti-360 news in direct retalliation. It ended in at least one ban and one warning for Legend.

However, over the last few months, Legend has barely posted at all.

We've seen as of late, a rather unfortunate return from everyones favorite stealth troll when he posted this topic:

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=29624

Name: Legend11

Technique: Legend trolls by creating topics using obviously unsourced and opinion oriented internet blogs as his catalyists to emphasize his point.

Calling Card: Legend starts all his trolling post by simply posting a link, the article in question, or a particularly rough excert from it, aimed at Nintendo hating. This protects him from moderation.

Other info: It's rare that Legend will actually stick around to back up his argument, however, he obviously feels as if he's hit upon something with this Boom Blox Wii cherrypick. He's often been owned in the past for playing Wii bingo, and has now promised us his own version of Wii bingo focusing on how in his mind, Wii fanboys spin poor 3rd party sales. Legend is also a huge 360 fan himself, but short of a fanboy, because he rarely talks about the 360, instead focusing his attention to the Wii, which is certainly the console he likes the least, and more than likely hates.

Determination: Anti-Wii topics by him should be met with epic fail cats, as they are obviously biased and cherrypicked. This determination should be re-evaluated when Legend makes several Pro-Wii topics or shows genuine interest in the Wii performance in NPD, Chart-track, VGChartz, MC, or Famitsu sales figures.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

You do realize where you totally took an example that disproves your inital point right?

It's strange that with all the rebuttles presented to you in this topic, you cherrypicked the only one that you could reply with any kind of talking point. Care to comment on anything else, or you just gonna leave it at that?

Hahahahaha. What a stupid example.

I don't expect Majesco will be able to continue on their current path forever... They seem to have a lot of "retard" casual games planned which will eventually come back to bite them.

But so far, Majesco has basically been the poster child for third parties on Wii. In near bankruptcy, they were able to start hacking the dead weight out of the company and change their entire focus towards expanded market titles on DS and Wii, and now they're on the verge of finally emerging from the red. It's a dramatic turnaround thats been getting quite a bit of attention over the past 12-18 months.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I think he makes these retarded threads on purpose just to get more VG$.

So some of you are basically saying that you should make crappy games for wii/ds since they bring easy money? :)

As a response to Erik, I'd actually argue that Majesco is an example of a compay that's doing it right.  Sure, they're coming up with a bunch of mass market games to help shore up the company's finances, but there's also games like Blast Works and Major Minor, both of which have aspects that appeal to both the mass market and the more dedicated gamers.  Either way, they're certainly a company that's doing much better than they were before. :p
