It really depends on what market you are talking about. Miyamoto is a console legend. However, if you start talking casual PC games, Will Wright is an icon. For FPS games it's John Carmack, although an argument could be made for Gabe Newell also. It is difficult to say there is one icon for all of gaming.

I give this thread a 9.5.
