Forums - Sony Discussion - Japan Prelim: Around 460k first week in Japan for MGS4

http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=1305

This is awesome news for the series.  Right in line with the other MGS games.  Kojima definitely deserves it.

I also think this raises my first week FF XIII projections there.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

bundles not included, should be 500k overall

Much more than I or anyone else expected for japan.

edit:

I was correct MGS4 did allow the PS3 to pass the wii for this week.

mM

You should have put 413-517k or just the lower number to be on the safe side. Inflating numbers isnt cool.

amazing, PS3 dominance begins

He didn't inflate the #'s. Read the thread...the opening paragraph says the ps3 sold 460,000 units for the week. The range is simply for margin of error, but for all intents, the ps3 is considered to have sold 460,000 for the week. (Which was a shortened week too...MGS4 released a couple days later than usual).

My point exactly. If there happens to be an error you know someone is going to jump at the chance to say "Ha what about that 460k" it's ashame but people are like that

But if you put the lower expectations down it would look like it's meeting expectections plus some. Its a mental trick type of thing.

Get what I'm tryin to say here?

What are your predictions for FFXIII 1st week Final Evangelion?

I must say this is great news for the PS3 but something on that article worries me:

"There appears to have been no significant bump in PS3 software sales to accompany Metal Gear Solid 4 sales."

That's not good AT ALL.

That should come in time...most that bought a new console didn't buy any extra software because they know they'll be absorbed with MGS4 for a week or two (plus the console, MGS4, & probably an extra remote already cost them a LOT...lol, probably waiting for the next paycheck!). If we see any jump in "other" titles for the ps3, it will probably be in the following weeks after they finish off MGS4 and are looking for something new to play.  I'd expect Yakuza 3, Hot Shots Golf 5, and Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue...and some of the Gundam/Mech games to get some minor jumps in a few weeks.   Probably not enough to put them on the charts, but maybe a few thousand a week for each.

@I Perdict,

Yeah, I understand what you're saying...I was just saying that they announce it has 460,000 though so he wasn't REALLY inflating the sales, just saying what "preliminary data" is predicting. But I understand. I prefer to be a pessimist that way, I can be pleasantly surprised if things turn out better than expected and when they don't, it's not a big deal because I was expecting it.

Yeah we should see a little bump in NGS and RCF:ToD (an especially little bump for this title.) They are becomming a best in a few weeks. And with the extra user base that it will be able to target we might be a little surprised.

I'm going to go with 1.6 mil. the first week, which I originally had 1.2 mil. first week.

FF7 and 10 sold 2 mil. the first week with 5 million install base. I predict FF 13 to release at 3 million PS3 install base.

MGS and FF, maybe GT, are anomalies that will have abnormally high attach rates. In other words, MGS and FF are like Zelda and Mario were to the GC and N64. People are buying the console specifically with these games in mind.

Oh yeah, I did say AROUND 460k on the headline.
