Looks like a side-scroller that would be released on Xbox Live Arcade or the equivalent for the Wii...

I've never head about "vannilaware" before. (shouldnt it b spelled vanillaware btw?) That a genre?

They aren't shovelware. OMY is definitely hardcore but niche. King Story seems like a game for both casuals and hardcore. Kimg Story has staff who worked on DQ VIII, FF games, Harvest Moon, etc. Also Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts composer) is doing the music. Both are quality.

No offense, but you should bone up on your Japanese gaming knowledge.

Go check out Odin Sphere on gametrailers, and that'll be a good start for your introduction into the world of JRPG, and all things Japanese. Vanillaware(sp?)'s first game in the US, if I'm not mistaken(PS2 only), and it made quite a huge stink.

 

Next, you should check out Atlus, they produce amazing games for all consoles.
