Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft shoots themselves in the foot with Halo 3

"The Collector’s Edition picture erroneously shows that it ships with a Bonus Content disc and a Game Two disc. Incorrect. It’s a mistake at MS’ end and we’re updating retailers with the correct image. The “Game Disc 2” shown in the art actually refers to an interactive Bonus Content disc. It’s an Xbox “executable” (think of it like a menu-driven disc, similar to the Official Xbox Magazine cover disc) and internally, has always been referred to as “Game Disc 2” because it has to go through the same certification process as Halo 3 itself. That was somehow communicated to MS retail marketing verbatim. Hence the error. No big deal."

HAHAHAHAHA.

Thats funny. So the game isn't even on two discs. According to others, this just leaves one game on the 360 which requires more than 9 gigs, and Sony wants us to pay $200 more for up to 50 gigs.

You tell me which company has some explaining to do?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I've been telling people from day one that biggest mistake Microsoft had ever made was not giving the 360 a ridiculously expensive disc drive that would have crippled their sales from the start. Damn you Microsoft! Damn you! Why couldn't you have just economically sabotauged your console's success like Sony did and given the consumer what they wanted.

Seriously though is there any length some people won't go to in order to justify Blu-Ray?

it goes back to MS bashing on SCE for trying to incorporate the nessesity for a higher storage media for the next-gen games. MS reashured us that we DONT need it. yet even as they say that, they obviosly DO need a larger storage madia for next-gen games.

Except that, even if it was on two discs (which, as it turns out, it apparently isn't), obviously we DON'T need a larger storage media because we can use multiple discs!

I can't believe the issue people are making out of multi-disc games.  It's one thing when a PC game is released on 7 CDs and I have to sit in front of the computer swapping discs for half an hour instead of popping in a DVD and letting `er rip.  But if I just have to use another disc after 10 hours of gameplay, I really could care less.

I understand complaints that it will cost more to produce multiple discs...

But on the consumer end, having 2 or even 5 discs doesn't really bother me, as long as switching discs is a smooth enough process.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
