Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft shoots themselves in the foot with Halo 3

Ign realease this photo of the Halo 3 packaging recently which reveals that Microsofts 'flagship' game, Halo 3, has content that exceeds the 9GB DVD format of their console.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/795/795238p1.html

even though this means that we'll be gettign our moneys worth for that $60+, microsoft may have to re-explain their possition on NOT need a larger storage media like Blu-Ray to ensure the release of their future games.

rockstar has also mentioned difficulty while trying to compress their upcomming game, GTAIV, on to ONE 9GB DVD.

It appears that microsoft spoke too soon that game developers have no need for a 25+ GB storage media.

I think MS owes the developers and us, the consummers, an explaination as to what thier possition is now.

Your thoughts?

Two discs?

Sweet, that means they didn't try to cut back due to disc space.

Oh wait ... we're suppose to complain?

Blue Dragon is on 3 discs. This is a day late and a dollar short.

oh wait, hmm maybe if it was on Blu Ray it would be on 1 disc, hmmm....

Also, the cover isn't doing it for me.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

What is the big deal about multi discs again? Who cares about this?

it goes back to MS bashing on SCE for trying to incorporate the nessesity for a higher storage media for the next-gen games.  MS reashured us that we DONT need it. yet even as they say that, they obviosly DO need a larger storage madia for next-gen games.

Besides the more DVDs the higher production costs will be

Well, maybe they will introduce ANOTHER Xbox360 with HD-DVD, but still no 65nn...

They sure do owe an explanation. Same with Sony, who said we DONT need Rumble.

Gee, the production cost will increase 25 cents! Ohs noes! They should have implemented an ultra-expensive disc format that would have increased the price of the console by another $100 to solve the problem!

Seriously... This is a non-issue.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

The game is being released, so clearly they don't _need_ large capacity discs. It may mean extra discs, but I bet it also cut console costs. Easy choice fer me.

the lack of the vibration function on the current PS3 controllers is due a (recently settled) lawsuit between the "rumble" corperation and SCE.

Now that they've settled it will hopefully be returning.
