Consider it a second chance for some people who maybe were banned for only minor things but for anyone who has been banned previously and steps out of line (only once) you will find yourself banned again pretty quickly.

you know, this might be a good time to invest in a backup solution. Nightly dumps of your database will mean all mistakes such as these can be fixed without too much trouble (of course, luckily this is a relatively minor issue compared to what could possibly happen)
