Forums - Nintendo Discussion - AAA Wii third-party support on the way, says Capcom community specialist

I've been saying similar things on other forums for a long time now. There were lots of Wii owners complaining about no 3rd party support. I had did some quick development cycle research and figured that the low end AAA titles would come out in the earliest of Christmas '08. Then coming in the summer to late '09 is when (if there are going to be any) the big 3rd party games will be released on the Wii.

There will be.  Planning at several publishers is already underway.  EA, Sega, and Namco I know for a fact but it's limited to just that....I know they are planning them but no details yet.  Konami and Capcom have been coy with me but I expect something big from them in late 2009 anyway.

From my understanding, Capcom Japan is scared of the Wii while Capcom USA gets it.

I know.Scary.

Capcom got burned by the infamous Capcom 5 on Wii.   Not long after GC launched Capcom announced the 5 titles.  Only 1 remained exclusive, 1 was canceled entirely.   Clover Studios, which made one of the Capcom 5 - Viewtiful Joe, is now closed.

This has made then nervous to quickly support Wii as they did with GC and resulted in several "tests".  Wii has since passed them all and greatly exceeded their expectations for a few titles.

 There is more.

Wii is killing the arcades in Japan,an area once thought impervious to this.It is no surprise that SF4 wasn't going to be announced for Wii.Also there are "hardcore" gamer developers among them such as the Devil May Cry and SF4 guys who basically continue to insult the Wii fanbase. These people are also obstacles to Wii getting proper support.

Requests for a SF4 petition were returned with middle fingers(where's the RE5?) and I believe this is why a statement like this is being made now.People were on their boards telling them that they weren't going to buy HD consoles and rubbed Fatal Frame 4 in their face as well as pointing out that their brands would die in a few years just like those that ran from the NES did despite being initially successful.

Sven realized the problem when he saw more gamers asking for a DMC with NMH-like controls than those actually praising the game.As I said earlier,Sven has read out Malstrom's articles as well as researched into disruption itself and he knows what can happen.

It was pretty much confirmed that the test was bullshit over on the boards and that Spyborgs was the only game that they even had planned. They know the riot on their boards is only a prelude of worse things to come however their are stubborn people who might continue to try and gimp support.

Capcom Japan has me very worried.MH3 being released after perceived lackluster support will not save them.

Traditional style Arcades in Japan have been dying for a long time.  It's the Pachinko style arcades that Wii is killing right now.

I've talked with Sven a little -- like I said, they have some AAA big budget games coming but they are very early in planning.

Spyborgs was the result of Sven and others having a meeting at Bionic Games and commissioning them to continue work on some concept art they had hanging on their lobby wall.  Spyborgs wasn't planned by Capcom at all.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

We have been hearing this for over a year now...I will believe it when I see it.

Some of you are ridiculously gullible if you buy his line about it taking years just to ANNOUNCE a AAA game on the Wii.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Nov 2006 - Wii launches - No big budget support.

Aug 2007 - Wii leads in sales - Publishers start to take notice.  Remember all those news stories about publisher X and developer Y now supporting Wii or opening a new studio just for Wii?

At this point publishers are starting to see Wii as viable enough for big budget titles but they still have games to finish and others in planning already.  Before they can plan to make any big budget Wii games, they must reallocate their resources.  They must plan for the funding and a developer before they write a mass distributed PR about their big budget Wii game.

By the time they've completed all this we could be well into *gasp* 2008.    Hmmmm, E3 looks like a good time to say something and if not then, there's TGS.

What you are suggesting is we're saying in Nov 2006 publishers isntantly cleared their calendars and secured funding and developers and began working right then.  But we're not, it doesn't work that way.

Stop arguing against the guys who know things when you're just assuming things.
