In hindsight, GameCube won last-gen because it was still profitable the entire generation. From the time it was released, to it's death in 2006, Nintendo still made money off of it.

if you say you're too poor to buy a 360 / ps3 and you prefer Gc to Wii - here's a solution. You can sell your Wii and still get a decent price and pick up a GC for less than £30 / 40 euros - problem solved.
