Whatever paided third party sales trackers this site has access to, sony will have access to them as well. So the fact is sony knows more about how many ps3's were sold then this site does. Sony didnt come out and just say they have sold a million, they have said they have sold OVER a million. So just calling it at a million is less then what sony have said in the first place. |
So you're going to put all your stock into a company that has a vested interest in reporting high numbers? As someone who has worked in advertising and PR for the past 7 years, I wouldn't trust those numbers with a ten foot pole. I doubt they're far off the mark (VGC isn't far from their numbers), but I also doubt they're picking a conservative estimate and publicising that. |
Im trusting the people who have access to more information than this website and they say over one million so if you want to talk about an over top estimate taking the over 1 million figure and just calling it just 1 million is still less then what sony says. |
yes, Ps3 has actually sold 10 billions units in Europe...here in Italy everyone has got at least 5 Ps3 (my gradnma for instance has got 12 Ps3: 4 for each TV set...sorry...13...she actually uses one to to keep her feet warm when she's playing motorstorm) ...and Sony is understimating cause it's the only company in the world that values truth more than profit
seriously: it's just a 5 to 7% of difference from a company ESTIMATION. As already pointed out by other members Sony figures must come out from the same sources that VGC uses (or at least similar ones so not necessarily better or worse: no soundscan-like system here in Europe!)...and excluding the case of soundscan-like systems that track every single CD sold all other sources usually come out with RANGES (something like "5000-6000 units have been sold this week in France according to our data").
Now if you always take the highest figure from every european country for each given week (that's just what supposedly MS, Sony,N and every other company do when making statements regarding sales of their own products) you can easily come out with a difference of 50k-70k units in 10 weeks...honestly i wouldn't care that much for such a little difference and the only fact that can't be denied is that PS3, right now, is selling well under Sony's pre-launch expectations: do you think that 950k colud be seen as a failure? well i don't think that 1020-30k could be considered a success either (when you consider that about half of this figure comes from the first week's sales and another 20% came from the 2nd week...at least if we give credit to Sony's triumphants press releases in the days that follwed the european launch).
O.T.
as a side note: i'm a PC gamer...and the last console that i have bought was the good ol' SNES..but this thing of the "nextgen war", i have to admit, is quite entertaining! oh, this is my first post in the forum...so hello to everybody!
