You're right nobody knows the exact numbers. Fact is only sony has sonys numbers. Whatever paided third party sales trackers this site has access to, sony will have access to them as well. So the fact is sony knows more about how many ps3's were sold then this site does. Sony didnt come out and just say they have sold a million, they have said they have sold OVER a million. So just calling it at a million is less then what sony have said in the first place.

So you're going to put all your stock into a company that has a vested interest in reporting high numbers?

As someone who has worked in advertising and PR for the past 7 years, I wouldn't trust those numbers with a ten foot pole. I doubt they're far off the mark (VGC isn't far from their numbers), but I also doubt they're picking a conservative estimate and publicising that.

Im trusting the people who have access to more information than this website and they say over one million so if you want to talk about an over top estimate taking the over 1 million figure and just calling it just 1 million is still less then what sony says.

look, I have an idea for you, if it will make you happy. Are you ready:

1) Take VGChartz numbers for all consoles.
2) multiply by 1.05

how's that? Do you feel better now? Now the PS3 has 1 million and you can sit there in the sure knowledge that VGChartz is undertracking the "real" numbers, while we all sit here with our "inferior" numbers.

If it makes you happy, you can even only apply the above formula to those consoles you like. Then the PS3 will look even better!

Because in the end, the truth is these numbers are here for all our benifits. It's not like any less or more consoles will be sold because ioi has stated these numbers. If you believe them to be in error by 5%, then add 5% to the numbers. But don't tell us to change when everyone else is happy.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

blowfish, please don't stress yourself. I completly understand where you're coming from and probably your absolute frustration. This site's forum community has got to be one of the worst around with some really weird group of people. The chart info is great and is what I usually use this site for but participating in forum discussions can be unneccessarily frustrating and can get disruptive rampantly. Just use other gaming forums for most of your discussions and you'll feel a hell of a lot better.

Contrary to how you feel, I think these forums are very consistent.  The majority of posters are looking for the truth.  At the moment, it only feels Nintendo biased because Nintendo is currently doing the best of the three.  If these same discussions were being held 5 years ago, the slant would be Pro Sony because Sony was doing the best.  People act as if these forums have a Sony death wish.  While I admit there are a few people that do feel this way, the majority of people DO NOT.

In fact, I feel there is almost an equal number of "Fanboys" for all three consoles, however because the vast majority of non-fanboys are currently leaning towards the Wii as the most likely to succeed, it seems like there is a Nintendo slant.

 I strongly agree.

Ultimately, there ARE very few people that really slant the Wii a whole lot. It has the most to prove after 10+years, and most everyone here takes their sales with a grain of salt.

In the beginning, we had a few Wii-nuts that were saying 100+m sales for the Wii, and all kinds of crazy stuff (Johnlucas comes to mind). Likewise, we had Washimul among others that were proclaiming the same thing as the PS3.

Ultimately, the site will favor whatever's winning, and be against whomever is losing. Not becaused their biased, but because that's just what happens - a winner, overall, gets more praise than the looser.

If you want to look at charts, most of them are made between myself (a X360 supporter), and a Nintendo supporter (TheSource), among others. These charts don't lie, and I trust the source and most other's that post charts.

Eventually, there's only so many ways you can extrapolate poor preformance in any system, regardless. That can either be called biased, or truth.

Eventually though, we're all here to find the truth about the games we like, and hopefully not let too much fanboyism in the way :)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

This should be posted in bold letters on the front of the site lol.  Who cares if your system isn't selling the best?  I've been playing games for 20+ years, and never once did I care if the majority agreed with my game system decision.  Why is it necesary to be sure that you have the highest numbers?  Numbers are for analysis, not for rabid defense or attacks on a system.  Play what you enjoy, discuss it here with others who agree with you, and don't worry if that doesn't include the whole site.

I stopped reading at this post because until Sony give official numbers and not this, "We sold over one million" garbage, how is VGchartz to know how much to update? I mean, should they just guess a number over one million and that would be acceptable? Right now, leave the numbers as they are because to the best of my knowledge, they are close enough to be considered.

This was already posted and discussed to death in another place in this forum:

http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=2898

Well it was only put up on mcv the website/industry magazine today. I still think vgcharts numbers should be changed, their already is a difference of 50,000~ plus 5 days more of sales to add on which would roughly put the total at 70,000~ difference. Like i said i really doubt the ps3 is being outsold by the xbox360 in europe and the main problem with the ps3 estimates on this site are the uk ones, which have the ps3 selling less than half of what the xbox360 does. On amazon the ps3 is ahead of the xbox360 most of time. Also that means with the euro software figures resistance fall of man has sold just under 1.5 million and motorstorm has sold just under 1 million worldwide.

then also wii and 360 numbers should added , but this is once a week

No you've misunderstood what i said. Sony have said they have sold 1,000,000 ps3's in 9 and a half weeks. Thats 1,000,000 in 66.5 days. Vgcharts numbers for the ps3 in europe run from march 23rd till june 3rd. That's a total of 73 days, so actually the difference is 6.5 days (basically a week). And vgcharts after 73 days has the ps3 only at 951,885. So theirs 48,115 of underestimating and thats with an extra 6.5 days worth of sales.

The other posts in the thread should more than convince you that that's basically a non-issue, though.

Move along people, nothing to see here...

Well no not really. When any company comes out and says they have sold (not shipped) 1,000,000 and somewhere else that tracks sales shows a lower number of 951,885 with and extra 6.5 days worth of sales included im going to go by what the company has said, not some third party who doesnt have direct access to the numbers in the first place. ioi does a good job of estimating but when you have the official numbers it's retarded not to use them especially as the difference of 50,000~ plus 6.5 days worth of sales which would be an extra 20,000~ for a total of 70,000~ would be the difference between the ps3 out selling the xbox360 each week in pal regions.

Would this be the same as Microsoft saying that they had sold 10 million 360s by xmas of last year? Now June and they still havent reached that mark, dont listen to everything corporations state

Your opinion Chubear, but ive been around a lot of games forums (far too easy to get distracted at work) and the majority are absolutely goddamn awful, ive made a home of here due to the fact that there are a lot of posters who dont break things down into unnecessary fanboyish arguments. Just beacuase no-one has come out and said "MY GOD BLOWFISH, YOU ARE SOOOOO RIGHT, WE ARE LIKE SO DAMN WRONG" doesnt mean we havent taken what he has said into consideration at all, we have explained that listening to corporate announcements doesnt mean that much at the end of the day. Ive heard some wacko announcements from companies in my time, including the one i work for so its no surprise to me.

Actually its not really too bad, I can probably count the number of rabid fanboys with one hand.

If you have been on the internet a lot you would realise that no community is perfect, this one is a pretty balanced and intelligent community on the whole. If you dont like it though, why post?  Your post was basically begging to be flamed - you just attacked all of us that post here and if you look at the responses to your post they are all mature and intelligent.

Flamebait - not taken.
