I think the PS3 will manage around 6 million... unlikely more than 7. So yes PS3 will sell more than it, but it will take time.

Pocketstation was a bit like the cart thing in the Dreamcast I think, where you could use it like a mini console or plug it into the PS1 memory slot to transfer stuff.

EASILY (especially if it has a 10 year life cycle...imagine when you can buy a ps3 for $149.00)...you forget that not a single big JRPG has been released in Japan on the ps3.

Yakuza 3 and DMC4, GT5:P, HSG5 were semi-big, but definitely not Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest big.

Once (IF) a steady supply of JRPG's start to come, you'll see the ps3 explode in sales.

Three things need to happen in Japan:

1.  JRPG's: FFXIII, WKC, FFvsXIII, etc. (And many more, many find it hard to buy a $400 console for one or two games)

2.  Slim model

3.  Price Drop

it was like a tamagochi, you could put your summons from ff8 in there and level then up then go back to you ps1 and use then in the game with the level you gained, they stole the idea from the dream cast.

 The second place console in Japan usually sells around 5 million units or so. So more than likely the PS3 will pass the Pocketstation. It will take a while though.

I said the ps3 will increase sales once that shit happens and sell much more than 5 million worldwide.  He didn't seem to think it would, so I was pointing out the OBVIOUS to him.  I didn't say it took a rocket scientists to figure that out.

Keep in mind what people were saying about the psp in Japan a year or two ago...now it's the top selling console in Japan--its been consistently outselling the Wii and DS for a long time now.

It assume it will beat it, eventually. I do see it going very far past 5 million, if it does that at all. We'll see after FF13. If it doesn't jump sales up a lot, then there isn't much hope for the system in Japan. It might not becuase there isn't much else for the Japanese consumer, when they'd be much better off with a Wii, DS or PSP.
