Forums - Nintendo - Wii are only for kids, they buy few games and Ninty games says Microsoft

The average age of gamers has been rising for a long time now. Last time I checked it was 28 in Australia. The wii only helped accelerate what was already happening.

It makes no difference what some bloke from Microsoft says, after all if it wasn't for the Windows side of Microsoft keeping the Xbox side afloat he wouldn't have a job.

If Nintendo released games on Xbox they would be the best selling games on there too, it's just a fact that Nintendo are the best producers of games there is, look what happened to RARE, amazing on Nintendo, shite on Xbox, Nintendo must have had so much input into there games to take them to the next level otherwise they would still be doing it.

I will be glad when PS3 eventually overtakes the 360 but they will have there excuses ready like the Xbox is too cheap nobody buys it, the games are better but people want to play them on inferior consoles, stuff like that, TOSSERS

The thing is the installed base for Wii is growing so rapidly (both casual and core gamers are buying into it) that the opposition has no idea what to do or say. They laughed at the prospect of a dominant Nintendo platform and now they see an unstoppable juggernaut that is rising in both software and obviously hardware presence faster than they could ever have imagined. They're helpless. The momentum will only grow, and they are left without any means of resistance.

Well, same old, same old from the competitors. The problem here is, nominal software sales are what matters, not normalized values like attach rates. Also, as long as it's good, third party software will be very profitable despite not being in the 5 million+ range of Nintendo first party software.

Yeah, seem MS and SONY is desperate right now and they should be, the core and casual gamers on the Wii was rapidly rising and it just keeps going. Just look at the weekly sales of software and hardware in North America so far, if Wii was only for casuals then Wii's sales should be declining right now, but the opposite was happening and Ninty dont even need OPRAH to advertised it.

He's just trying to attack nintys open wound caused by the lack of quality 3rd party titles, by saying that it never will have good 3rd pary games due to the wii owners. Desperation and delusional rambling tend to go together.

I have been gaming since the Atari and I have more games with the Wii then I have had with any other platform.

The funniest statement to me was, ". . . We said 12 months ago that Xbox would make money this fiscal year and we are on a path to do that. That’s a big milestone for us.”

Whenever making money for the first time is a BIG milestone, you might want to rethink your business approach. Shouldn't this be the main focus, not a big milestone.

What everyone seems to be missing, is that Microsoft used to claim they won by selling 10m first, then they claimed they won by having higher revenue. Now they claim that total units don't matter, and that Microsoft's business area isn't dieing off.

Microsoft is reeling backwards and trying to keep buyer confidence up, along with developer confidence. They can see they are going to be loosing developers soon, and they are trying to shy them away from going to Nintendo by trying to convince them that only kiddie Nintendo games sell on Nintendo systems.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Even that will change soon atleast for japanese developers, Tales of Symphonia may compete with DBZ Burst Limit in japan with 150, 000 pre-orders already and Shiren the Wanderer 3 with already 75,000 units in its first week. For a niche title its actually great considering that No More heroes was actually struggling to make 75,000 in Japan in its lifetime. And Tenchu 4 will be heading in Japan in October and more announced games headed in japan in these coming months. Which means Wii 3rd party titles can sell as long as theres adverisement and its a quality title...

Microsoft's "business area" has showed profit is possible on a Microsoft console and developers aren't leaving Microsoft in droves only to go to the Wii.  Microsoft was smart by releasing their console first; the result of which was that every developer got familiar with the 360's dev kit before the PSWii.  Using that as a crutch, we see a lot of multiplatform PS360 games which also look better on the 360.  If developers were going to jump off the 360 boat, it'd be onto the PS3 boat since they've been building that skillset with their multiplatform efforts.  That isn't likely to happen at the moment since the 360 also has the highest attach rate (IIRC).

All in all, this is just a PR move to slam the competition.  There's nothing really new here.
