That’s a big milestone for us.” - Robbie Bach, President, Microsoft’s entertainment and devices All in all, some nice comments from Mr. Bach. I am not too sure about the younger comments. I know there will be a younger audience on the Wii, but we also get a much older audience, as well. I understand the point he is making, though. As for the casual comment, I think Nintendo has distanced themselves from Microsoft quite a bit. |
Nintendo and Microsoft have different target audiences and pretty different aspirations.
Correct for the most part
If you think about Nintendo, their audience will tend to be quite a bit younger than our audiences.
I would imagine the opposite to be true.
They will skew on more games that are more casual.
Correct, although that is not to say that hardcore games don't sell on the Wii
They buy fewer games per console.
That's not entirely true, considering each console's first 18 months on the American market, and counting Wii Sports the Wii has a higher attach rate.
Their ecosystem around the console is very Nintendo-focused. If you look at the top 20 games on the Wii, almost all of them are from Nintendo.
If you look at the top 20 console games of all time, 15 of them are 1st party Nintendo/pokemon.

Note that if bundled games are included the number is 16
Now, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best_selling_video_games#Wii
Of the top 20 Wii games, 14 are 1st party Nintendo (15 if you include bundled games)
I guess we can change "only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo consoles" to
"only Nintendo games sell"
It’s a very different approach. They’re not trying to be a digital entertainment platform. They’re not trying to do movie video downloads. They don’t have the same type of Xbox Live service we have.
True-ish. The Wii got the BBC player deal, alot of good onlie games have come out recently, as has Wiiware and the Everybody's Nintendo channel. Oh, and internet browsing. Yes the 360 has a better live service, but you have to pay for it, and the Wii is catching up

The Wii is at a lower price point is it?? The arcade is cheaper than the Wii in Europe. We'll see who is forced to price drop next.
PR bullshit, nothing to see here
