I would imagine most of the older Wii owners have families and kids of their own. The Wii is inarguably the most family friendly system, which is one of its key selling traits. It's also the system that works best with multiple people (like a household) that want to play in the same room on the same console.

The handful of 30 something or older single guys who only game on the Wii are definitely a deviation from the vast majority of gamers and in no way prove that it caters to the older "more mature" players. Possibly barring those who are strictly Wii Sports, Wii Fit kind of owners.
