Washington Post: "Wii Fit be damned"

In an article written to encourage readers to continue to jog and run during the summer months despite the heat, The Washington Post's Jim Hage takes a dig at Wii Fit, suggesting that any outdoor exercise is better than a session of Nintendo's exer-gaming software:

"If we run shorter distances during the summer, go more slowly and stop more often for water or even rest, we're doing much more than those who channel surf or play computer games, Wii Fit be damned."

Harsh. And again the argument over the credibility of Wii Fit as an exercise tool arises.

Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

Wouldn't frequent stops and water breaks be bad considering that lowers your heart rate?

You could consider it to be interval-training.

If you do it correctly (for example: run 5 minutes, rest one, run 5 minutes, rest one, run 5 minutes), then it's better for your physical endurance.

It didn´t make nay sence to me either thats why I posted it to see what you guys thought.

Anyone interested in wiifit should use this site they have some good articles about various subjects relating to Wiifit.

That's what he was saying... even if your exercise sucks it's better then wii-fit.  Because in the summer you might run less then you would work out inside due to things like air conditioning.

Ignoring the Wii-Fit running thing anwyay.

That´s assuming you do exercise at all and assuming wiifit doesn´t help at all then maybe just maybe he is right.

If you take in to account people that don´t like excercise outside so others can see them or people that are time constrained then wiifit is ideal.

I also get the impression he didn´t try it enough or at all and bases his comments on the usual games are bad for you myth.

Meh, the article sounds like a joke to me.

Yes it does but what gets me is that as far as I know Washington post is or should be a respactable news paper. I might be wrong cause I am not American and it could be a joke news paper but as far as I know it is respectable.
