Forums - Sony - anyone else disapointed with resistance 2's resolution?

Wow, yes I am disappointed by 720p 30 frames/second

The guys who made it should have had the balls to ignore the bashing they'd get, and drop the number of pixels to a number that allowed the game to run in at least 50 frames/second.

Surprised? No.

The PS3 isn't nearly as powerful as Sony said it was.

LOL, how can you be disappointed, you were never going to get the game in the first place. That is like me be disappointed about how NG2 didn't live up to expectations.

Absolutely I'll pick up the game if its as good as it looks.  It should be substantially cheaper than launch price just a few months into next year.

480p 50Hz? Have you just invented a new tv standard?

New PAL tv's can do 60Hz as will all (verification needed?) HD TV's. But then they run at 576i not 480p. There would seem little point sticking 50fps on a 60Hz tv. Hence why most games try to lock at 30 or 60.

480p even at 60fps is not better than 1080p at 30 fps.

Your getting a PS3 early next year? I thought you were waiting for FFXIII Versus... Killzone 2 looked to good to miss did it :P

Again, not surprising, most gamers expect ever increasing graphic quality but forget that this can come at the expense of resolution and frame rate.

They could make Resistance 2 at 720p/60fps but then people would have griped about how little of an improvement the game is over the first game. Coming from a background of mostly PC gaming, I would prefer the option to turn down some of the textures to gain a higher frame rate. 30fps kinda sucks for online play.

I give this thread a 9.5

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

At some point I was facing the possibility FFXIII would hit early-mid next year and Versus by the end of the year.  That combined with the likelihood early 2009 would be slow for games on all systems made the idea of picking up a PS3 then and playing through its library of decent to good games quite appealing.

Now the whole concept seems a bit silly, but im finding myself fairly pre-conditioned to buying one then.  Of course if Sony does something really stupid like not bring back BC or drop the horrendous price in Australia, that may change.

30 frames is fine.

As long as it's locked and smooth, who cares?

Yeah a locked 30 is fine, but 60 is droolworthy in HD ;) After seeing the fluidity in Ratchet it really makes you appreciate :) Although 60 frames is much better for 3rd person perspective than first person in my opinion, so it won't be much of a loss :D You can't see you character moving after all XD

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

FPS games on game consoles are usually less fast paced than on the PC, this also due to different controls. Rock solid 30 FPS like in Resistance 1 is IMO fine, 720p is fine as well considering most people only have a HD Ready HDTV.

If at this point they could have done 1080p and/or 60 FPS without important sacrifices, they would have done so. Resistance 2 is very ambitious in other regards (said to include huge boss battles, online multiplayer support unlike no other FPS game befiore it, insane amount of onscreen activity, etc) and I am really looking forward to this game.

I trust Insomniac to show off a good end result, technically far more impressive than shooters we have seen so far on the PS3.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
