Forums - Sony - Kojima Productions: No 90 minutes cutscenes!

@dbot: It's not about the install times, it's about putting unnecessary restrictions on reviewers.

I think the deal about the install times wasn't the initial 8 minute install but the periodical 3 or so minute installs during the game. Luckily it seems there are cut scenes during that but I still don't see why that came up as an issue to stay quiet on.

I am not sure why installs are treated as a negative. Thank God Sony put a hard drive into the PS3. If the 360 had a hard drive, you would "have" to install games also. As it stands now, multi-plat developers need to work around this limitation on the 360. I think you are seeing some problems with aggressive caching on the 360 causing the chronic freezing issues on that platform. Again, a 1 time install and cut scenes = no problem.

Not necessarily, the 360's disk read/ stream rate is much faster than the bluray drive's on the PS3. The only reason why the 360 would ever "require" installations is if a DVD isn't enough and multiple disks are out for the question for the devs. However, there are ways to get decent data streaming without installations though. Both Naughty dog and Insomniac spans the data multiple times on the bluray disk (since there's so much space) to avoid mandatory installations.

I don't run into chronic freezing problems on 360.  That isn't to say that I haven't seen it happen, but I think I've seen it maybe twice over the entire time I've had the console (over a year) and the first time it was due to a bad console that I exchanged the day after I bought it.  The nice thing about the 360 is though that I can put any of the games in my collection into the console at any time and start playing.  I never have to worry about deleting stored install data to make space.  You may say they are not a negative but Konami must.  There is no reason for Konami to attempt to restrict that information unless they saw it as anything other than a negative.

 I give that post a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

I wonder if all the people who bitched about 90 minute cut scenes in previous threads will come here and apologize (especially the people who were never going to play it in the first place)?

Yea, I thought not.

With so many contradictions, I think people will wait for a more definite statement than a vague claim of "gross exagerations" .

A vague claim by the Assistant Producer of the game is easier to believe than some magazine.

Lets see who is more likely to be telling the truth, someone with an interest in the game itself or some outsider reviewing the game. If the reviewers would have been really that far off he could have just mentioned how many long cutscenes there are and how long they are. Instead he keeps it vague and uses the term highly "gross exaggeration". He probably isn't lying in the sense that the longest cutscene is in fact shorter than 90 minutes. But if it ends up to be around 80 minutes you really shouldn't be surprised and it would be perfectly in line with the remarks in Edge's review. Anyway, the game is almost out and you're free to time the length of the cutscenes yourself and end the discussion once and for all. (although I fear more people will do it and somehow come up with different lengths)

LOL The mere fact that you have to communicate this logic to certain posters should be a clear indication of their propensity to ignore common rationale and manipulate the circumstances in a manner that fits their fanboyism.

This is really not the reasoning that requires college graduate intelligence.

But I think your comment was very well communicated, if even on deaf ears

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.

-1 to you for recycling the same joke for the millionth time. >_>

@profcrab - That post was at least a 9.4.

@bbsin - Many developers are already complaining about the lack of a hard drive in the 360, Rockstar most recently. I don't think they are complaining about game saves.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
