Forums - Sony - Is Sony in trying to please casual gamers loosing the hard core gamers too?

Just looking at the titles like Afrika and LBP and EchoChrome and PSEye, i feel that Sony is loosing its identity.. Yes these games are good.. but first the foremost importance is to keep its true followers which were hard core gamers.. It look to me they r putting much more effort in challenging Wii instead of fullfilling the requirement of their true passionate fanboys.

Secondly they are wasting their important resources which could have been used to create some other franchise.?

So in trying to imitate Wii they are neither considered a worth challenger for Wii nor seriously taken by hard core gamers against 360 in the NA...

Sony tried to please the casual gamers also last gen. Some of them did it quite good like singstar. LBP is not just an ordinary casual game it is something that Hardcore gamers also will love I think.

JUST REMEMBER!!! HOW BIGGER THE SIG, HOW SMALLER THE ****

Sony is just doing what they have always done.

Yeah, I totally agree! After the hardcores-only PS2, this amount of casual catering is getting ridiculous.

I dont think they will lose a whole lot of there gaming crowd based on having some new casual games (some on PSN). I think sony will try to strike the balance between hardcore and casual games, if they can get on their feet and stop playing from behind the other systems.

well casuals are the bigger market, and i think they are still getting the hardcore

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Sony has always made a vast amount of titles that range different genres like this.

Gosh why is everyone acting like making games that aren't adventures or shooters or fighters automatically mean apocalypse. Seriously get over it. Not everyone likes games that blare at you and give you seizures from light intensity. Some people like games that are easy to get into and play every now and then. Geez so much discrimination fro the hardcore fanbase ever since DS and Wii released. Get over it geez. There's more gamers out there than jsut the hardcore fanbase that want to play as well, so let them in and stop complaining about it.

I know because the ps2 was the most hardcore thing ever. I loved the hardcore games like singstar.

"Why Sony is focusing so much on 'casual' gamers now?" is not the important question ... the real question is "Why did Sony abandon the 'casual' gamer base of the PS2 when they released the PS3?"

Up until this generation, Sony has always catered to the 'casual' gamers more than any other company and (as a result) ended up with the most popular system; Sony's targeting of older teens and young adults (who people didn't consider as gamers at the time) was one of the core reasons why they were successful with the Playstation and PS2. To date the PS3 has been way too expensive, and has had a very weak line-up of games which target 'casual' gamers, so they have been struggling to maintain the userbase they built with previous consoles; I could be wrong, but I suspect the damage has been done and they have no chance of recovering.
