Forums - Nintendo - The Wii storage solution, a grassroots campaign is in order.

Last night I decided to buy a new WiiWare release "Toki Tori". For the record, a fantastic game, buy it! Of course (third week in a row), I was faced with the dilemma of choosing what VC titles, WiiWare, and channels I had to remove to fit this puzzle game on my Wii.

I have now removed almost every VC title I've purchased to fit WiiWare, and it looks like I will have to remove Defend Your Castle or Lost Winds if Gyrostar or World of Goo come out next week.

Every WiiWare game I've downloaded has been very good, and I applaud Nintendo for coming out with quality titles on a weekly basis. However, I'd ready to scream every time I buy one.

I called Nintendo to complain (second time I've done this), and asked the rep if she was getting a lot of complaint calls. She said (though I don't believe it) that my call was the first one she had received about this issue. I find that very hard to believe. The first rep I spoke to (launch week, for Lost Winds) said is was to combat piracy. I understand what he's saying, but it shouldn't be inconvenient for Wii owner to give Nintendo money.

Now there has been speculation that a solution would arrive at E3, but the IGN podcasts have been saying that WiiWare developers have told them there is no solution coming anytime soon.

I believe it's time to start a grass roots campaign to make it painfully aware to Nintendo that a solution is needed pronto. I WANT to spend money on WiiWare. But I'm not going to move Dr. Mario, Lost Winds, Toki Tori, etc off my Wii less than two weeks after purchasing them. The SD transfer is slow (download is too) if you just want to "Pick up and Play" a game of Dr Mario online.

It's becoming increasingly inconvenient to give Nintendo money. How does this make any sense? The console that prints money doesn't want you to spend anymore?

I propose we email, write, and call Nintendo repeatedly until they announce a solution, be it at E3, or later. We should spread the word to other boards, and ask those boards to spread the word as well. The complaining should NOT be whiny bitching, but something that stresses the point that we WANT to support VC & WiiWare, but will not accept deleting or copying games every time we want to give Nintendo and these small developers our money.

I would stop buying games until a solution was announced, but don't think it would be fair to these new and upcoming third parties (ie XGen, Frontier) who ARE actually putting out high quality experiences on WiiWare.

I'm not a believer in online petitions (I don't think they have much impact), but maybe even that option should be explored. This issue needs to be in Nintendo's face over and over until they give us a solution.

Anyone agree?

Anyone knowing snail mail addresses to Nintendo please post them, a flood of snail mail usually has the most impact to a company because it requires manpower and takes time to open and read them.  (Last week someone proposed sending Ubisoft plastic shovels from concerned Wii owners, brilliant!)

Please post sample letters or ideas for others to use in this thread as well. Just remember to keep it positive, that works better (ie: "I Want to spend money, but will not tolerate this unacceptable circumstance any longer. Does Nintendo no longer want our money?" not "This suckz! Screw you!")

”There is no failing strategy so long as it satisfies the hardcore.”
So, you are telling me that a company could lose billions of dollars would be declared a success if the hardcore were satisfied with the playing experience?
”Yes.” ........ Malstrom 5/2008

Ignoring your OP but to address your quote - you know that Malstrom was using that arguement in a fashion to make fun of hardcore for their naive and selfish perspective.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Well, obviously the third-parties won't tell you if Nintendo has something in store for E3. It would be just like if Square off-handedly mentioned that KH3 is Wii-exclusive: they couldn't announce it in front of a massive audience and get a great reaction, because people would already know.

Iwata already said he is thinking of some things to help with the storage issue.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Could it be that information about the solution has been embargoed and third-parties have to say X until after E3? Could it be that they have not been told about it?

With Nintendo, youu don't know.

If nothing is announced at E3, then I think it is time to send the plastic shovels to Reggie.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I have exactly the same problem - down to 96 blocks and 3500 points left cos I couldn't decide last night do I remove, OOT, Mario Kart Channel, Wii Fit Channel, one of my other VC games (though their not that big).

If you get any feedback please pm them to me as i'm interested.

Yes I know what Malstrom was saying my sig was attempting to show I agree. I think I need to tweak it to make it clear.

His cat reference is my favorite at the moment.

Malstrom also stresses the importance of the Wii being like TV with channels. I have now had to delete almost all of my nongame channels. This storage issues is a flaw in Nintendo's brilliant strategy. I can't use channels if I have to delete them.

I do think it would be embargoed info, however IGN usually is in the know and would keep it to themselves. but if you've listened to them lately they have said the developers are as frustated as they are and have said there is no solution in sight. There has been massive compaining in the last few podcasts about it, as they are trying to play and review WiiWare titles themselves.

If they knew and couldn't say, they would just stop the complaining and wait.

I had much hope in Iwata's comments, but now frustration is taking it's toll.

I HOPE there already is a solution coming. However I think we should start to complain now, if a solution is announced we can stop. But if no solution is coming in the near future, we should make sure they have to make it a priority. Better to start sooner than later.

@mike_intellivision : Plastic shovels = shovelware (hence sending them to Ubisoft), and WiiWare has had pretty good titles (except the Ubisoft shooter, wait for Gyrostar) so shovels don't really apply. And I'm not mailing them SD cards or hard drives.

One potential way to do this is to constantly submit questions to Wii Vote about whether or not the Wii needs a harddrive solution.

Never allowing a "no" answer, for instance, I've sent in:

"Does the Wii need a harddrive with an automatically expanding channels menu?"

And the available replies are "yes" and "OF COURSE!"

Whatever it is, people need to be bombarding Nintendo with complaints about this. Make their lives a living hell.

What is so bad about remove Lost Winds? If you already beat the game, no big deal. You can DL it again in a few min or so. Some people have to move stuff around on the PS3, also.
