Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3's Bioshock Mystery Studio - What Could the Unannounced Components Be?

Original story: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=190211 There are four studios currently working hard on the PS3 port of Bioshock: 2K Marin, 2K Bostin, 2K Australia and a fourth mysterious yet-to-be-revealed studio who allegedly has "some outstanding PS3-specific coding chops..." Who could this be? Insomiac is well-known to have a strong grasp on PS3 programming. Recently they've opened a new facility in North Carolina. Coincidence? What could this mean for Bioshock's potential content? If it is in fact Insomniac who is the mysterious developer, perhaps the much-requested addition of multiplayer is a possibility? Additional changes mentioned since the announcement have been potential graphical tweaks and a reworked physics engine to take advantage of the PS3's processing power. Rumors abound (and video) suggest in-game XMB and trophy support, also possible Home interactivity. What changes/additions would you like to see for the PS3's version of Bioshock?

Graphical tweaks are a must. The UE3 Engine has been around for a long time now, so even though the game isn't running on the 3.5 Engine, I think it will be better than the original (however marginal it may be)
I haven't actually completed BioShock myself, as I sold my PC before I could do that, so I never saw the horrorific ending which everyone seems to be upset about, so I would like to have that improved.
More Big Daddy's of course (as we may or may not have seen, depending on the credibility of the screenshots showing them).
Let our faceless dork be a not-so-faceless dork. Give him some character for gods sake!

@instant karma,,,how's it goin man,,,nice to see you back online buddy

OT:Insomniac is the secret developer,,,they always help other studios and they know PS3 very well,,,,we might see an online option after all.

Bioshock isn't even running on UE3. It's running a highly modified UE2.5 engine, so I doubt they'll be updating that. I think the most they could do is tweak the graphics a bit, and add additional content, which is good enough in my book.

 Really? http://360.kombo.com/article.php?artid=7461&pg=3

"AMN: Speaking of the graphics engine, it's running on Unreal 2.5 right?

Ken: No, we've moved to Unreal 3, we've done a lot of modifications on top of it, all the water effects we've added, and we've added a lot of features like water....again we don't build features just to have them, we build them to have an emotional resonance."

I figure Insomniac must be most likely. I know they build their own engines vs using middleware engines like U3, but they have made it clear publically they will help other developers with coding on PS3 and with their 3rd PS3 game due soon who else has more experience of delivery games on PS3? Most other developers have 1 release (of this scale) and that was often late.

I'm curious whether they port from what they have or move to more recent U3 engine and port over code/content to a new U3 version. Given that UT3 runs very well on PS3 and received a lot of tweaking it might make sense to switch to a more PS3 friendly version of the core middleware (or it might not make sense for many engine reasons I know nothing about!).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Please let Insomniac be on that.

Is Insomniac seriously a possibility on this? OMG if that was true this iteration of the game is going to be INSANE x.x; They're personal engine is capable of some INSANE feats, they'll be able to work absolute wonders for this title :D
