I hate it when game developers/publishers avoid advertising their games on television. Who determines what game gets a TV ad and what game doesn't?

actually i recall a tv ad, but it wasnt only for mgs.
u guys remember the playstation commercials with the saliva song?
it would show different clips from different games and it mentioned metal gear solid 4 and on the bottom left it said playstation 3 exclusive.

I somehow think that this is complete BS... i mean one of the biggest games of the year and they are not going to advertise the hell out of it?? No company is that stupid!

Also keep in mind the Bonus Round is taped previously, and posted over several weeks, so things can change.  Seems like there is going to be a tv spot during the VMA's, so we'll see.

Why would they avoid TV ads in the first place? It makes no sense at all

Maybe others are different, but I can't think of one single thing I have bought due to seeing it on the tv. Does it add awareness? Yes. Does it make me purchase it? No.

With that said though...I don't think doing a "LITTLE" advertising on tv would be a bad thing. But they probably figure since it's included with the 80 GB sku it will sell plenty of copies over the following months.
