Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan: Wii Sports 3 million sold - 50% attach rate

http://wii.ign.com/articles/878/878096p1.html

Media Create numbers shows that Wii Sports has crossed 3 million sold in Japan.  Remember that it isn't bundled there like the rest of the world.  They also note the Wii is over 6 million units sold making Wii Sports owned by ~50% of the install base in Japan.

Of course VGC numbers reflect this instance perfectly with 6.12 million Wii's and 3.05 million Wii Sports in Japan.

Even though it's just oen terrirtory,  I don't think there has ever been a piece of software sell at a 2:1 rate with the hardware or at least for this long post launch.

Nintendo's surpsingly deep tech/game demo has shown that even without the pack in status, it is truly THE software giant.

How much does it retail for in Japan? It surely isnt a full price release

Actually I think others have shown that it is full price in Japan.

yeah and its still selling around 25% of wiis,it will have an awesome attach rate in japan even though wiis userbase will be huge

Why does that matter, colonel? The fact is that Wii sports IS a system seller, and a great revolutionary title.

It's like saying GT5P sales don't count.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Amazon/jp lists it for ¥4000 marked down from ¥4800. Kinda hard to tell but it looks like a lot of Wii games start at around ¥5800 or ¥6800 on Amazon there.

Ummmm when did i say the sales dont count...?

the point i was making was that if they are paying full price for it, then holy cow thats amazing for such a limited game. If its being sold for a lot less than normal releases, that would explain the sales.

Not need to get upset and start having a paddy

@Colonel: You just proved my point. Price isn't important, the key is that sold systems.

Still wouldn't because no boxed retail game, regardless of retail price, has had this kind of attach rate.
