Hmm....where does fear fit into this?

  1. Denial
  2. Anger
  3. Bargaining
  4. Depression
  5. Acceptance

I just don't get why people get so bent out of shape about the Wii being successful. As I have said from the beginning of this generation when the point was intitially raised, as long as there is profit to be made from the "hardcore" games they will survive.

Yes ,on a machine barely capable of outdoing the PS2 and Cube and worse in all the senses to the Xbox 1(online ,graphics ,etc).Thats a problemn in itself.

One more thing ....better technology gives better playability in most occasions. You can play with the phisics ,the lighting ,the depth of the world ,the storytelling ...to give a better playability.Thats why COD4 is better that DoomII for example, and why FFX on the PS2 is today a better game that FFII on the Nes.Not to mention multiplayer online features that add to the longevity of the game etc.

And yet with all these flaws that you seem to accept as fact about the Wii it is trouncing the HD consoles from week to week consistantly.

I don't even know what to say about the rest of your post. I mean you're using specific game comparisons which are subjective by definition as a means to make your argument. Subjective examples don't really make a compelling argument to begin with but I don't think you recognize the difference between sustaining uses of technology and disruptive uses. All of the competitors in this generation have used technology in some way to better playability according to each console's core values.

Simply put the HD consoles overshot the market and Nintendo is using the opportunity to redefine the core values. Polygon count and resolutions are some of the values that overshot the market, and while those values won't be the driving force behind every new hardcore title they will still be around.

Nintendo isnt redefining any core values. Its just heading for the mass market of no players with a flawless marketing and simple ,easy to pick up and play ,regressive games. They are redefining the market to their new approach to games ,the casual approach.Brain Training ,Nintendogs ,Wii Fit ...thats the new Nintendo. They will continue to churn out their old franchises as Pokemon ,Zelda and Mario as long as they sell (and Mario sells very well) but thats about it as core gaming investment.

Dumbing down something hasnt ever been a good redefining quality.

As for the provided shot between Brawl and some fake NG shot .....please try harder.Dead or Alive 3 Ultimate on the Xbox destroys Brawl on all the senses conceivable in the technic plane.

Dumbing down something that never was very good? Wow. Nintendo never has had anything very good and they've dumbed everything down? I don't think people that speak like this have ever played the Wii and just want to justify their high priced purchase. Tell me, have you ever played a game with Mario in it or are you scared off by cartoon characters because they're not manly enough?

To get a sensible increase in performance you need at least 4 times the power and memory.I am talkin to the kind of increase that we associate with a change of generation. The Wii can run PS2 games in 480p and thats about it.And most developers have said its comparable to the Xbox1.

Well ,the Wii better have something out that couldnt be done on the Cube-Xbox and then we can speak.

The problem with some NIntendo fans is that you dont see any problem with anything ....as long as Nintendo is in the first place.Shovelware ,no problem there are also good games ....bad graphics?graphics dont matter playability does.....simple game mechanics?well it had to be done so everyone can play and not only those sucky niche core gamers of that stinking market we knew as videogaming until now that Nintendo has enlightened us....no good online?who cares prefer to play with my friends at house anyway ....zero multimedia capabilities?well its a game console not a multimedia center....few third party support with good games?the games will come because the wii sells...even the core games arent better that last generation ones?well at least they are as good as last generation ones and look you play them with the wiimote at least its a change..

Do you even understand the basics of electronics engineering? I'm just asking the question honestly. Its just that every time I hear these multiplier expressions where something has to be "2x", "4x", etc... it really makes me cringe.

Again as for the rest of your post, you are essentially whining that we are happy with what Nintendo has to offer. You of course add a negative spin on every aspect of it but essentially your entire second paragraph is just one big complaint centered around your assumption that everyone should like what you like and want what you want and anyone who doesn't is just lying to themselves.

And you don't think simplicity is a core value? You don't think pick-up-and-play is a core value? You're really oversimplifying things here, first you point out a few selected casual games and without the slightest attempt at a convincing argument declare that Nintendo is only interested in those games now, while completely ignoring things like Disaster Day of Crisis.

Honestly at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what you or I think. Nintendo is going to do their thing and what happens happens. You can live in fear and annoyance of what the Wii might do in your mind but the sooner you come to grips with the fact that different people enjoy different things and there will always be someone there to make money on that fact the sooner you can get back to playing games without looking over your shoulder.

Nintendo has had very good things. And its current core games are extensions of those. But they arent developing in the same way as its casual and marketing based approach to mass market gaming.Their old franchises are at least keeping the old NIntendo fanboys with the Wii and showing that some core games can sell....at least if they have Mario written over it.

I am not scared of cartoon characters. They just dont motivate me at all.Or at least ,they dont motivate me most of the times.Playing one of these each year or two years is allright ,have a complete lineup based on mascots ,virtual pets and the like is for most adults not interesting at all.Nintendo fans tend to think that others just think they are more manly because playing violent games ,beating prostitutes etc.It doesnt have anything to do with that,ot at least it doesnt have anything to do with that for good amounts of players.Nintendo fans have REAL problems figuring out that many grown up people just dont relate the same way with cartoon characters and official pets as what they did when they were 10 years old.But not ,they CANT get it ,it must be that they want to beat some more prostitutes or play some bald space marine to feel more manly isnt it?

I don't know about Diomedes but I would rather stick my hand in a waffle iron than read another one of those lame articles...

you seriously need to think before posting a thread like this. If you are bashing nintendo, you don't know video games. Nintendo revolutionized video games. If there was no mario, video games wouldn't be what they are today.

No. It's because we like the games. Do you think that we play Mario games because Mario's cool? No it's because his games are. I've also been a Space Marine and enjoy that stuff too. Beating up prostitutes doesn't appeal to me, but I guess it does to some "men". I just take exception with you saying that the new Wii titles of old existing games are dumbed down. Super Mario Galaxy has gravity effects in it that have never been imagined in other games. This is not dumbing down. Mario Kart Wii has been accused of having a lame AI which won't let you win no matter how good you play when in reality, 95% that you don't win it's because you didn't race well enough this is not dumbing down either. I could argue that "mature" games have been dumbed down and to be honest I'd be pretty much right. Wii Fit might not be your type of game but it shows that Nintendo is still willing to try something different and not stick with the same old same old ( Generic FPS # 975,238) . I DO get it. You don't. This is not a rant against fans of Sony or Microsoft. I do like some those games. It's a rant against your statements.
