Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will Ninty lose the war if Sony & M$ develop similar or better controller?

Quite simply no. The controllers for the 360 and PS3 wouldn't be standard. The market would be segmented and both consoles would have still be more expensive than the Wii.

People won't see it as copying if it is going to appear in next console cycle. Many people made a lot of noise in that Xbox 360's thread because it just apperearing too fast, not many people can just accept it like others as a natural result.

Yes people will see it as copying because it is. Because they were stupid enough to scream to high heavens that it was a stupid fad with no merit. They can hardly pretend now that it was their plan all along.

Natural result, yes the natural result of get their ass kicked by an idea they laughed at. If Nintendo was wrong then they should stand by their vision and fight it out. If Nintendo was right, then they may as well can the whole thing.

Nothing is wrong with ps360 controllers, they work better in day to day gaming than the wiimote so they don't need to develop a "better controller" to improve gamplay.

As a casual games controller or controller for people who cant differentiante between RT and RB and would rather just shake their hand at the TV it may work and slow down nintendo's runaway success...but probably not unless they could make their whole back catalog playable with it

Depends on your weird definition of "day to day gaming."

Neither of these new controllers will help at all.  It's too late.

Actually, they need it. This is why Sony added Sixaxis to their controller. They can't just end up as more powerful console in next generation console cycle(e.g. PS4, Xbox 720). The fact is the PS360 controllers work more of the same without getting any better or worse. In fact that Wiimote like controller are working better than before while the technology improve. Wiimote like control seems to be a natural control. It is like the multi-touch screen flat panel we saw in Tom Cruise's Minority Report while the techonology evolved.

They may need it to hook younger players in next gen right away or to steal marketshare from nintendo, or maybe for some newly developed titles that will use wii mote like controllers.

But the games most people play on ps360 don't need a wiimote. You should know fully well that Halo 3 + wii-mote like controlls = Halo 3. It doesn't matter what controller you use, it still the same game.

Sure it may have a section where master chief goes fishing as a mini game...but its still the same core game. Some people may be entertained with the new control scheme...and re-beat Halo 3 using it. But by the time they start playing Bioshock...the new controller scheme novely will be gone and it will be back to the normal pad.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Nooooooooooooooo.

Certainly all controls will evolve based on Nintendo's lead, next gen.

Controls will of course be more precise, and we'll almost certainly see smooth 1:1 motion capabilities from all the consoles by that point.

We'll probably see Sony and Microsoft focus more on a single controller that functions like a Wii-Mote/Nunchuck combo, though for options on controlling games the more traditional way, but I'm sure that most games will have motion sensing parts as a requirement.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Actually It would be a better game due to the wiimote  being more accurate. You may say CoD 4 ps360 is the same game as the pc version , but the pc version imo is far more enjoyable. It may have the same content, but not the same way you play that content.

Controller =/= Wii success. Controller + Casual Games + Cheap Price + Loyal Ninty Fanbase + New Market = Wii Success.

You can't just take one piece out of the formula and expect the same result.

I think you are misleading. You just don't want to admit the technology need to be evolved? Ok, I am going to ask you?

Atari Joystick controller or Xbox 360 controller for Halo 3?

Next one, Xbox 360 controller or Mouse and Keyboard for Halo 3?

It can be Halo 1,2,3, it doesn't matter.

It will become a natural control as keyboard and mouse, maybe it needs some buttons redesigned or something else. Or it can just evolved to real life simulation, like you really carry a real gun or even Minority's like controller design.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Find out! On the next episode of! DRAGON BALL Zeeeeeeeeeghhhhhh!!!

Oh man, didn't you guys go through this? I mean I remember laughing so hard to a thread about this not more than 4 months ago.

Will this turn into a flame war too, will the OP decide to do some research before making another post, will one person hit the anti-mode that he loves hitting!? (disollute) Will WoW go super WoW?

c'mon, even if they do make a new controller with IR & Motion Sensing, they don't have any software that supports it at the moment, they would be forcing people to buy it for new software - Microsoft has a bad track record for backwards compatibility, I mean let's say they did make knock off's of the Wiimote, and let's say it's not infringing, Now let's go out on a limb here and say that they could get all their past softwares to support this new device and made it the new main controller.

They'd have to get past all the PSmote is a gimick, and how it's a fad and how it will die out... ok seriously, if all the above was true then it wouldn't affect Nintendo in the slightest.

Either way Sony is way too busy signing deals with Comcast and Cablevision and a number of other major cable television companies, aparantly they got the US court system to agree in droping the on-top box system so basically no more Cable box, hello PS3?

Either way I think Sony want's a PS4 in the living room, so if this the direction their going... this is gonna be one heck of a ride.

Think of it like this, Time Warner want's a way out of their disruption, but they are moving with Sony to a higher teir the thing is that their being disrupted by youtube and other streaming free media with low quality but works. So either way it's like their both screwed, what do I know though.

Also NO again, it will not have any peel or razor and spike effect on anything Nintendo is doing, your looking at the Wiimote and saying that's it. Take a real look at HD adoption rate, Blu-Ray adoption rate, PS3 sales in relation to Xbox Sales.

Then remember regions as Europe is basically Sony is a must mentality and allegedly US is Microsoft land.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
