Forums - Nintendo - Homebrew Channel Beta releases to the public

Ninty wouldn't have cared so much if it was just linux but having an N64 emulator is like ripping off it's VC service, and region free hacks violate the deals they may have with publishers in different regions.

If you read the FAQ, they say there is no way to erase the record of the channel being on your Wii. That means once you download and install this channel, you will never be able to send your Wii in for repairs again, and you may end up being unable to play future Wii games online.

Yep that FAQ will scare a lot of people off. However I apreciate that the creators of that channel had the balls to be honest in that FAQ.

Well, they were smart enough to not allow people to play pirated Wii games on it, but it's still not something Nintendo will like (especially with an N64 emulator).

I doubt anyone will care. Once you've opened up your Wii to install a mod chip you've voided the warranty and everyone knows that. Installing the homebrew channel won't make a difference.

As for being unable to play future Wii games online, don't hold your breath for that one...

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

This has the potential to be amazing. We'll see where they go with this, but they definately have my attention.

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

Once again I am tempted to buy a second wii... one for homebrew, one for official play.

I should go hide my credit cards... not that i'd be able to find one this far into memorial day even if some had been available this morning.

The n64 emulator runs really slow, the people behind the emulator may improve it over time, the channel is really polished, and if people install something like thism they are aware of the potential bans and what not. Thing is, even if nintendo fixes it in a future firmware, you still have to update for that firmware to take place, and since we are past the barrier of mario galaxy, smash brothers and mario kart, not many other games are going to be missed by a not uptodate wii...

Maybe for you.  Personally I don't think we've seen anywhere near the best of what the Wii will have to offer this gen.

Holy hell. It comes pre-installed with SCUMMVM ...............

Temptation to get 2nd Wii ... all too great.

Scummvm works great with broken sword 1 and 2 :)

if you dont want to install the homebrew channel, you can just use the twilght hack to play the scummvm file that comes with the homebrew channel, with no risk to your wii, and no traces (for the wii diary you're playing twilight princess)

scummvm even works with wiimote functionality (even though its over sensitive)

you can always uninstall the channel before an update if you decide so...

Besides, nintendo can always block the use of that software, but they can not harm your wii in any way, becuase its not modified and the guarantee still applies, you're just using legal software, coded in its entirity by the homebrew community.
