Forums - Gaming - Are Strategy/RPG's and RTS games hard to get into?

you have a PC I presume?

since you're new to the genre, get Starcraft.... (i'd say warcraft 2 first, but maybe a bit old looking for some people). I'll be cheap and an awsome introduction to strategy games (blizzard titles are always easy to get into).

RGP wise, I agree with above statements, get an oldie that's a sure good game. You want the story to be interesting on your first RPG, if you go for a top graphics game on that you'd be missing the point.

Well the playmechanic is most of the games the same..Of course there are many variation..but basic gameplay is move character, attack, denfend.. or something like that.
If you have played one, you will usually get familiar with other rts games

Regarding the "rock/paper/scissors" comment I made, you must have never played any Fire Emblems if you'll deny it's the truth. It's in the manuals themselves made by Intelligent Systems that the three main weapons and magics all work off a rock/paper/scissors system.

That's BS. I've played FE enough to know what you say is plain BS. And no, the manuals don't say that except perhaps to try to illustrate the system to people that have trouble understanding the triangle system, which is what they talk about. FE has always had a triangle system, which has nothing to do with "rock/paper/scissors", except that it's a triangle too.

Wow.  Way to split hairs...

I'm surprised we don't see a mention of the ABC-reaver weapons around here.

RTS games are easy to learn, hard to master.
Play some offline games against the computer, and you can easily own them after a short time. But online, it get's more tactical, you need to have a good tactic to win.

MK7!! 3DS friend code: 0688 - 5579 - 0994

Also playing DotA2 beta!

The problem with RTS games is that the a biggest element is online play, and if you've never play an RTS before.... you'd probably get raped when you jump online and try to make a name for yourself. There's no bigger learning curve than the ones in online RTS games. I never got into a console RTS.... so i dunno about the challanges there.

As for SRPGs, they are not as daunting as RTS games. Most the SRPG I've played are more about grinding and building up your characters than actual strategizing.

It's not splitting hairs. If you played FE enough, you will know that levels of characters and their skills have more effect onthe combat than the type of weapon, which I illustrated with my sword against lance example.

Rock/paper/scissors incorrectly makes you believe and implies that what is more important to determine the issue of combat is your type of weapon, which is plain false in a SRPG like FE, but very true in a strategy game, like Advance Wars. "Triangle system" does not imply that.

Likewise, ganginp up on a unit works well in strategy games, but not so well in SRPG.

Games where your type of units are more important than the characteristics of your characters areusually strategy game.

i recommend u play warcraft3: frozen throne for PC

Except that it is splitting hairs.  Rock/Paper/Scissors is a perfectly reasonable concept to liken the Fire Emblem Triangle to.  The only reason you can't accept that seems to be that you came into this thread looking for an argument.
