Forums - Sales - Resident Evil 5 sales will suck??

Developers either low-ball or high-ball. You earn nothing on being close to the number, but falling short of it. Then it failed to do what it should, which the financial board could look at as a bad thing. If you low-ball, the game did much better than expected, the board should like this. If you high-ball, you could get much more attention, and therefore increase the sales in comparison to medium-balling.

but what if they're just blue-balling? haha. jk.

They make a conservative guess (2.3 mil) so their shareholders will be happy if they break that estimate total sales.

Remember how they said: RE4Wii edition 440k I believe or something... It's @ 1.6 mil or something right now.

Remember how they said: RE: UC will @ 600k. It's at 1.1 mil.

It's just the same what Nintendo does with their shipment numbers. Guess a conservative number, upscale a little at each quarter... Break the estimate... Shareholders = Pleased with performances!

Zucas while we ar being subjective here, I'd like to say that RE 0 sucked and that RE directors cut was great but could of been better.

I'd also like to say, I couldn't stand RE4 and Umbrella Chronicles was actually fun, which is opposite resident evil - of course this is all my opinion and your not inclined to have to understand.

BTW I'm not joking thats my opinion. =P

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

People didn't like RE0.  That's what everyone says.  My explanation for that is because RE0 was easily the hardest one in the series.  Guess people don't like challenges anymore.

RE4 was incredible.  I mean this is what defines perfection in gaming, despite people giving GTA IV all the perfects.  Pathetic isn't it.

RE:UC was great for the fan base.  I call the game a fan service and enjoyed every moment of it.

I mean RE easily is one of the best series ever created.  One of the most dynamic and expansive storylines ever created, with some of the greatest characters ever created, with one of the best gameplay setups created twice.  RE deserves all it gets.

This is my opinion as well.  If you haven't noticed by my avy and sig, I'm a huge RE fan.  Second favorite series of all time only behind Zelda.

Since when "suck" 2.3 million copies? Even as userbase goes up the fact that there are more good games to choose from will make sales stay pretty constant. People only have so much money.

Well if it only sold 2.3 Million across both consoles that would mean one version sold less then Umbrella Chronicles. A light gun shooter spinoff game.

It isn't sucking... but you'd expect both versions to outsell the spinoff.

Shouldn't be too big a deal though as it should pass those numbers lifetime.

they are predicting way to low. thats saying it wont even sell as well as DMC 4 did. I think it will sell like assassins creed between the 2 consoles and end up at 5 million

RE5 will sell MUCH better than 2.3m units. If anything, Capcom is setting a very low bar, so when it blows past that number, investors can be very happy. And if sales are expected to be that low...It'd make me think that Capcom didn't pay alot of cash to make the game.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

From that news-article I can't decipher weather the projection by Conami is 2.3 mill for just FY 2008 or lifetime sales.

It doesn't matter. RE is a big franchise, and RE5 will be a huge success.

I can't imagine less than 1.25 mill sold in NA for the X360 version alone. That would mean WW around 2 mill just for the X360 version. And thanks to Japan the PS3 version should have even better sales.

So RE5 will quite easily reach 4 million. I predict 5 mill though.

Hmm, well I can't really see this selling well in Japan. Have you guys even seen what the game looks like? A big, bulky, Gears-of-War-like American storming around impoverished 3rd world villages, guns blazing, shooting black people. It's not a game that will appeal to Japanese AT ALL, no matter how many Western 15-25 year old males will wet themselves over it.

Cheebee - It's not like RE5 is some sort of wacky, new version of Resident Evil that is vastly different than RE4 in any specific respect.

RE4 sold:
140k on Wii in Japan (46,293 First Week)
220k on GameCube in Japan (142,152 First Week)
490k on Playstation 2 in Japan (241,586 First Week)

For a grand total of 750,000+ units in Japan alone. So your idea that the Japanese won't buy a GOW-esque shooter is wrong. Look at MGS. Ultimately, if the game is home-grown (ie, Japanese) it can do rather well, even if the content looks more "Westernized". Final Fantasy is this way: anymore it appeals to the West, but that doesn't bar sales in the East.

Now, if it's PS3/360 only in Japan, I wouldn't expect some sort of magneficent sales in Japan since it's missing out on the main console in Japan - maybe 350k-400k in Japan, LTD between both systems.

However, it WILL do gangbusters in the US (I'd expect atleast 2m in the US alone from RE5 on 360), and should do well in Japan too.

I think RE5 could see 5m LTD sales on the PS3/360.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
