Forums - Gaming - PSP and PS3 games - are they really that bad?

Well, from my personal experience, games on PSP are not that good...
The first games I played was NFS Most Wanted, and I did the mistake to play 2 days later the PC version! Oh my GOD!
Later, I tried PES 5 and... it really sucked!
I played many other games, and the PSP lacks of original GOOD games, from a personal view.

I think the PSP suffers from warez, it's easier to use warez on a PSP than on a DS and I have a feeling that the audience for the PSP is much more into pirating as well.

The only games I ever played on PSP was Ultimate Ghost and Goblins, and I loved it. I just can't tolerate the ridiculous load times on that system. It's a handheld with console load times and that's a serious flaw imo.

I forgot about that..the load times!

Wii sports is selling well because it comes free with the console and in Japan where it doesn't, its a fun diversion. You take the games success and sales for what the game is, don't act like there is some singularity by which to measure all genre of games. Is that useful? Not really, but its the best you're going to get. Despite your want to believe in an all knowing measure of whether a game was good or not, there is nothing more reliable than the game's sales. A game does well by its sales whether popular consensus is its a good game or not. Its the closest thing to an objective measure of a game's worth you'll get. I know that blows your minds but honestly relying on game reviewers isn't anymore objective.

I never claimed Game sales were the ultimate answer, just that they were the closest thing you'll ever get to an objective measure of a game. Relying on Reviewers after you or others have played the game is just a childish crutch and an excuse after the fact..

Isn't the "green" more like 80% or more? If you count the games that have reviews of 80% or more, those numbers might be different. If you count the reviews of 90% or more, than maybe the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii have the edge. Even games that get reviews of 75%-79% are considered mediocre, and not good, because there's too many other games that get reviews of 80% or higher. Also, there are many more Wii/DS games that sold over 1 million copies, than PS3/PSP games. Also, the Wii/DS games that got reviews of 80% or more are better than the PSP/PS3 games that got reviews of 80% or more. Not only that, but most of the PS3/PSP games that got reviews of 80% or more are not even developed by Sony.

Minimum number of reviews is set to 5.

Playstation 3:
80%+: 13 games
85%+: 3 games
90%+: 1 game

Playstation Portable:
80%+: 44 games
85%+: 15 games
90%+: 1 game

Nintendo Wii
80%+: 5 games
85%+: 2 games
90%+ 1 game

Nintendo DS
80%+: 33 games
85%+: 13 games
90%+: 3 games

The Playstation Portable, and Playstation 3 have more games that recieved reviews of 80%+ than the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii. So why is the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii selling more than the Playstation Portable, and Playstation 3? I have no idea. Maybe because the Playstation Portable, and Playstation 3 are too expensive.

However, when you compare the games on each system that got reviews of 85%+, the numbers are much closer. In fact, the Playstation 3 has only 1 more game, that got reviews of 85%+, than the Nintendo Wii. Same with the Playstation Portable, and the Nintendo DS. Now, if we view the games that recieved reviews of 90% or more, on the consoles, the Playstation 3 has just as many as the Nintendo Wii, and the Nintendo DS has two more than the Playstation Portable.

Also, the only game that recieved reviews of 90%+ on the Playstation 3, got worse reviews than the only game that recieved reviews of 90%+ on the Nintendo Wii. Yes, Twilight Princess was named "Game of the Year" on multiple websites, and got higher reviews than Resistance: Fall of Man.

To conclude, the Playstation Portable, and Playstation 3 have more "good" games, and slightly more "great" games, than the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii. But, the Nintendo Wii's only "awesome" game is better than the Playstation 3's only "awesome game, and the Nintendo DS has two more "awesome" games than the Playstation Portable. Most people only buy a few games for each console they own, and are most likely going to buy the "awesome" games first. Since the Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS, have more, and better, "awesome" games than the Playstation Portable, and Playstation 3, and cost less, this may be one of the major reasons why Nintendo is now outselling Sony.

Source: Official Nintendo Magazine UK
Comment: As compelling and solid as "Rival Swords" is, we can't ignore the fact that many people already played and completed it 16 months ago. A GameCube game in Wii's clothing. [May 2007, p.88]

Comment: It makes the right moves but doesn't quite scale the heights. And you can be the GameCube version - without Ubisoft's half-hearted Wii controls - for around 20 pounds. [June 2007, p.38]

Score: 67%

Comment: A great game and if you can convince yourself to spend the $50 instead of just buying the Cube version for far less, then you'll have a lot of fun. However, the controls vary from new and fresh to frustrating.
[Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07]
Score: 60%
Source: NGamer UK
Comment: No matter how well-crafted these features are, they all boil down to gameplay based on a swinging club - the one thing the game can't do. To misquote Twain: "PGA Tour 07 is a good franchise spoilt." [Apr 2007, p.46]
Score: 55%

Comment: A massive disappointment. Play with the analogue stick and it's a great golf game, but try to use the Remote and you're in for a rough ride. [Apr 2007, p.83]

Comment: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 offers everything players should expect from the series, but the developers at EA Redwood Studios need to take the motion controls to the woodshed for next year's release.

Comment: While the general controls are fun and easy, the uber moves are too difficult to pull off. This will be the biggest turn-off for most gamers. The game is just too difficult in this regard.
[Mortal Kombat: Armageddon]

Comment: This one doesn’t redefine the fighter genre, but it’s still a fun Wii fighter that interested players can enjoy if they’re willing to put up with some small problems here and there.
[Godfather: Blackhand Edition]
Score: 70%

Comment: Blackhand Edition has a few high points, but it's hard not to think of what a Godfather game could have truly been.
...need I go on? Getting tired of copy-and-pasting here. Every single site listed here was grabbed from Metacritic.com, and every single site listed here is a Nintendo-centric site.
Face it, the closest thing you're going to ever get to an objective source is the game sales.
You mean as in higher-selling equates to higher-quality? I guess I should point you towards Spider-Man 3 for the Wii then, ranked #5 on the North American Wii sales hit parade?
...or perhaps you meant Red Steel, with over 1m copies sold?
Score: 60%
Source: NintendoWorldReport
Comment: The overall gameplay in Red Steel would have been much better if it had just focused on the shooting part and dumped the swordplay. Most of the game's controls are not very intuitive. There's nothing special about the game's story or its gameplay, either.

Score: 59%

Comment: Red Steel's FPS control style is superior to a standard console controller, but that's a credit to the Wii, not the game; Red Steel does its best to ruin what the system provides.

Score: 55%
Source: Wii Advanced
Comment: Unfortunately, Red Steel was built on the premise that the controls would bring a new level of immersive gameplay and fun never before seen in the genre. This was never truly delivered and in turn has done more harm to the game then aid.
Frankly, suggesting that sales equals objectivity is absurd to say the very least. You mean a game like Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, which sold poorly and well below expectations, is a bad game?
Shame on you Davygee, shame on you, you should have known better than to try something like this.
I'd say quite the same for you, o proverbial
.
You are as bad, if not worse than the SDF and Xbots rolled together in a ball, then thrown down an alley at a group of Nintendoids arranged in a triangular, tenpin fashion. If you even bother to refute this, then you are definitely much much worse than the SDF, Xbots and Nintendoids all bunched together, Katamari Damacy-style because with you, it's not about any console or brand or preference - all you really want to do in these forums is to
.

Here, since you obviously missed it...

Game Reviews are worthless, and are tailored to specific audiences, not objective over arching measures of all games and genres. Most developers listed on Metacritic are Sony owned or biased, not that this makes the industry of game reviewing anymore valid if that wasn't the case. Game Reviewers are tailored towards high powered games and intense graphics, not the novelty of a fun game or the appeal of games worth to all audiences. The fact that the DS games are selling better than the PSP disproves Metacritics Aggregate system and the Wii has only had a handful of games introduced to it and is still selling hands over feet above the competition. Somehow I fail to see the value of Game reviewers when their reviews are only used by people trying to justify games after the fact.
