Umm... let's bring it back people.

First off, those are pre-order numbers, not actual purchases... ZOMG. The only people who buy the game will pre-order it! Uhh... no.

Also, that doesn't include bundles. Lots of people will be buying the MGS4 bundle in Japan, Europe, and America. Both the Sony one, and the Gun-metal one.

Sales for the actual game for the first week will hover around a million, but with bundles included, it'll easily pass 1 million first week, and climb to 4-5 million lifetime.

So calm down darthdevidem01. Breathe for a second, and remember that pre-orders =/= sales.

Yes you are right, but something similar happen with SMG one of the big games of Nintendo, pre-orders were big, but the actual sales were... well low compared to the preorders... is this game bigger than SMG???

Source said that these were actual pre-orders, not retail pre-orders.  The data comes from the same place he gets his Preliminary Data each week, so 165k actual people have pre-ordered the game.

Plus bundling from both Konami and Sony should ensure a week of 3-400k, not disappointing at all.

He didn't say that in his article nor in this thread.

MGS4 will have HUGE legs....especially in NA. Think about it. The reintroduction of the 80 GB sku bundled with MGS4. Look how many copies Motorstorm sold because it was BUNDLED with the 80 GB ps3 (Motorstorm wounldn't have sold CRAP if it was bundled). MGS4 will do the same.

And Europe isn't in those figures either...

If MGS4 sells +750,000 copies in the first week between Japan, America, and Europe, I'd be thrilled...epecially with the amount it will sell with all the ps3 bundles over the following months.

I can't believe I never thought of that

@ Viper

 @ Rocketpig

Very worrisome indeed...

Maybe people are waiting for the MGS4 bundle?  That's what I'm waiting on... I can't be the only one.

These are merely pre-orders. Far more people will be buying the game than just those pre-ordering.

You goober, that means retail pre-orders.

Unless you think each weeks prelimenary data is based on consumer pre-orders.

@ Darthedevim: Yeah, GT5 Prologue. Okay, I´ll explain that a bit further.

GT5 Prologue is a game that sells the most units in Europe. Europe is where the PS3 is strong at the moment which is why sales of the game are so great. As I said Metal Gear Solid will sell well in Europe, too.

Japan is a different story, though. These are retail pre-orders and if you think judging a games sales by sales of it´s predeccesors is wrong, well... this happened to the entire PS3 library in Japan so far and the same happende to Nintendo back in the late 90s.

It´s not that I don´t want the game to sell well (I´ll buy it myself probably) but it is highly unlikely that the game will see sales of 1 million units in Japan taking userbase and overall PS3 software sales into account.

Well I am VERY worried about the Japanese situation...but why people expect sales to SPIKE 3 weeks before MGS4's launch is beyond me..

There is no way that MGS4 will be bundled for very long, DragonLord. The opportunity cost is too great, and the expense to Sony and Konami too significant.

I can't fathom how much Sony spent to bundle it in the first place: 40 million? More? The finances surrounding this game are so nebulous as to make any real estimation impossible.

However, I still think MGS4 (for a variety of reasons, including the bundle) will buck the trend of decreasing sales for this franchise, and push back up to 5 million+ sales, which is excellent.

If the console was going to explode, sales would have started an upward movement already... See Halo 3 for an example of this. The PS3's sales are moving in the exact opposite direction.

@Rocketpig

well we knew they weren't going to EXPLODE....we knew that since MGS4 has never gone above 1 million in Japan

please tell me who thought sakes would EXPLODE in Japan (barring crazzyman or leo-j's obscure predictions)

only T3H FF13 n DQ 10 can do that in Japan
