Forums - Sales - MGS4 Pre-Order Numbers -- JAP + NA

well it is bad if this is true but i'm guessing it's not completely true. From reading the this came from it seems to me that they are extrapolating data from the places that they get their preliminary data. We'll probably be getting numbers from y-koron soon.

"PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2008 with average weekly sales 40k."

Not to drag this too far off-topic, but in what fantasy land is the PS3 selling 40k a week in Japan?

When MGS4 releases the PS3 is going to sell like 72K a week for a long time... or something.

In Japan NEVER, only FFXIII can make it.

Sarcasm or delusion?

@Shanebcn. Very easily.

GT 3 A-Spec - 14.87 million
Gran Turismo 4 - 9.4 million

MGS 2 - 5.56 million
MGS 3 - 3.97 million

I was talking prologue version. We all know only GTA beat the GT series in terms of sales.

What's GTA got to do with this?  GT3 A-Spec is a Gran Turismo game.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

are there any figures for pre-orders in others?

kaz, this isn't wii fit. If they don't get big first week sales for MGS the game isn't going to sell that many copies. Games like MGS just don't have legs in Japan, and no PS3 game has proved to had any legs at all besides HGS (although it had way better legs on PS2) but even those are dull compared to many Wii games.

This is the Japan where you buy the game first day, and sell it back when you are finished. Even if they underestimate demand used copies will eat up sales quickly.

And what full GT game sales have to do with GT prologue? To say GTP is bigger seller then MGS is ridiculous. Check the game database of Vgchartz.

So we're having some 640k excluding Europe and some minor markets. Europe has been more important to previous MGS games if I recall correctly, and there are also more PS3s in Europe if I recall correctly. I think it's safe to supposed we're going to 200k + 440k = 640k + 500k = 1140k worldwide at least, which would be the misquoted one million the first day, and that's only pre-orders. Also, someone stated these numbers were from April? That means even more pre-orders. Now, I cant' really say due to my lack of experience but I think 1.5M WW is pretty safe, easily even more. Not bad at all. Fist week sales could exceed 2M and even more. That's a lot more than I expected, and could be even low.

We're going to at least one million the first day, that's for sure.

Don't normally have legs.  If preorder supply is lower then demand however it will have "forced" legs.

As for the selling back games after you are finished.  If that's the case i may be wrong.  I've never heard anything like that however.

Guess that would explain why RPG Re-release do so well over there.

preorders does not account for total DAY 1/WEEK 1 sales so calm down. MGS4 will manage on its own. lets just wait a few weeks for the numbers and then we can speculate on how successful or unsuccessful its initial release was. but until then, chill out.

Umm... let's bring it back people.

First off, those are pre-order numbers, not actual purchases... ZOMG. The only people who buy the game will pre-order it! Uhh... no.

Also, that doesn't include bundles. Lots of people will be buying the MGS4 bundle in Japan, Europe, and America. Both the Sony one, and the Gun-metal one.

Sales for the actual game for the first week will hover around a million, but with bundles included, it'll easily pass 1 million first week, and climb to 4-5 million lifetime.

So calm down darthdevidem01. Breathe for a second, and remember that pre-orders =/= sales.
