Forums - Sales - MGS4 Pre-Order Numbers -- JAP + NA

Anyone who thinks this game CAN'T be made on a 360 needs their head checked. Sure there will be some loss of visual/audio quality, sure it may come out on 2 or 3 discs, and sure there might be some cutscenes cut - but it doesn't really affect the game or the quality of the game.

Bringing it to the PS3 only was a business decision, NOT a technical one. The technical hurdles can be easily overcome if they want to.

Bringing it to the Wii or DS however... now that would pose some technical headaches :)

Sure it can be made on the 360,at a loss. The decision to actually go with the PS3 exclusively, was one made from a technical standpoint not a business one;Kojima has even gone on record, comparing the potential development of MGS 4 on the PS3 and 360 as "making a movie for theaters" and making one for a DVD.He has also recently suggested that;he would not make a 360 port of MGS 4,but that he would rather take the developmental experiences from the PS3/MGS4 and make new games at a faster rate, presumably multiplatform ones. @ OT:Even if MGS4 doesn't do spectacular numbers come release(which i doubt),it will have strong legs-because of the PS3 bundle alone(not that it wont sell well,on its own merits). The fact that only a minority of people pre-order games a couple of months in advance, should not be an indication of how well MGS 4 will sell come release.Me myself, dont see the point in pre-ordering a game DEC 07 and waiting till JUN 08 for it;i usually pre-order it the month the game is released, especially if i know it wont be suppy constrained, like say GTA 4.Some who aren't into the series and just want the game, will not even bother to pre-order,but will just go pick it up at thier local shop. Most dont even have a PS3,and are waiting to get the PS3 bundle or looking for a reason to get a PS3.All that said;I think MGS4 will do fine, spectacular even, come release and no one can deny a great game.

Yes, but with a huge hardware install base. You Sony fanboys need to remember that this is not the PS1 or PS2 era. PS3 can't have the same sales as before. Now the PS3 is the system with the lower install base.

Well, at the time of MGS2's release PS2 didn't have such a large userbase yet. It only came later. It was higher, true, but not huge. MGS3 on the other hand must have had more competition. I'm not saying MGS4 would surpass them though.

Well 9 hours of uncompressed audio mean betmeen 20-25 GB of worth data, which is just not possible.

I heard, from a more tech-oriented guy who's making some sort of a 3D engine himself, that nine hours of uncompressed audio would take some 5.5 GB. I don't know if 5.1 surround takes more but... You get the point. And, let's assume a 700 MB CD can have 60 minutes (that's one hour, and it's low) of uncompressed audio (it's uncompressed isn't it?), we would have 9 * 700 MB = 4900 MB = 4.9 GB. I don't exactly know how this should be calculated but I'd like to know how you got to your 20+ GB.

At the moment I can see no reason for MGS4 to have to be released on X360. PS3 is selling more than X360, it probably has a larger userbase than Konami expected last year and MGS4 is to be bundled with PS3. It has already received some excellent reviews (although the major sites still haven't reviewed it) and its pre-order numbers aren't too bad (but not excellent either) - 640k without Europe and some minor markets isn't too bad. It will definitely pass one million with pre-orders only, if they actually tell anything. I'd also expect it to sell otherwise than with pre-orders as well.

Thanks to DVD9 only 360 exclusives can be ported to PS3 like for exemple Bioshock. And when developers use the full potential of bluray then they almost kill any chances of ever porting their game to X360. I don't think Konami will bother releasing port with 10 dvds because remember the audio in MGS4 is not uncompressed.

It's not that hard to find a reason they should want to put it on 360.  GTA4, DMC4, enough said.

I said there's no reason they would need to port it to X360. Sure, they could to get more money, but my point was that there's no actual need and I'm sure they won't port it without any need.

there's no need? There's no need for a business to make more money? are you insane? Why do you think businesses exist?

Then why do 3rd parties even release exclusives? It's not always about being paid either (not to say how it's in this case).

Making more money is good but is it a need? Making enough money is a need, not making even more money.

People need to recognise that MGS4 isn't the type of game that apeals to mass markets in the same way that Games like COD4 or GTA do ,but regardless it'll sell at least 2 million life time.

2 million is for Carnival Games, this is "MGS".I would say it'll say 5 mill on average, lifetiime. You have to remember MGS's core demographic is about 4-7 million strong. The MGS4/PS3 bundle should also help push sales beyond that "average".

if you haven't noticed exclusives are becoming extremely rare outside of the ones that money is being thrown around.  The only company i can think of that isn't doing this is square.
