Well this depends on the game type. For longevity I would purchase Galaxy for short term play MarioKart!

Get Mario Kart Wii now so you will get the most out of it's multi player online feature. Once the hype dies down and a new online multi player comes out people will be playing that instead. Super Mario Galaxy can be bought anytime, the sales are still progressively going to reach 10 million over the course of the next year, so you don't have anything to worry about.
