Forums - Sales - Japan's May 18th numbers.

@Rubang

So, should we expect this year´s E3 and TGS to mark the start of the flood of 3rd party titles for the Wii?

@FishyJoe

didn't we say the same things about Ps3 in regards to EU & Na last year

we know how thats turned out

PS3 will succeed in Japan....might be late though

 Unfortunately that was a completely different scenario.  NA and EU both had huge titles to look forward to as well as having much better sales relative to what was expected.

Japan may well recover for the PS3 but the NA and EU example was a very poor one.

@sqrl

well Japan has a bigger title doesn't it...FF13

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I predict a tsunami of japanese games to Wii and DS in E3 and TGS.

When will 360 numbers go under 1000 a week?

VGChartz Hardware data for the period

02nd Feb 2008 to 17th May 2008:

ConsoleWiiPS3X360
America
2,408,102
1,081,905
1,026,264
Japan
968,695
237,891
38,476
UK
796,675
382,523
337,114

It's interesting to see how much better hardware is selling in the UK compared to Japan recently( 4 months).

  • The Wii is almost selling at the same rate with only 21% more sold in Japan
  • The PS3 has sold 61% more in the UK then Japan over the last 4 months
  • The Xbox360 is doing far better in the UK.    (As Expected 886%)

Both the PS3 and Wii have a greater LTD in Japan but the sales of the PS3 are clearly slowing compared to the UK. This could explain why we are not seeing so many JRPG's produced on the PS3 as the UK and Europe are showing themselves to be far larger markets then Japan and so they are creating more games that cater for the European audience.

At the present rate (this weeks) we could see more PS3 sold in the UK then Japan within a year.

Playing : PC  AOE, DiRT 2, Runes of Magic, Wings of Prey & Planetside 2

So the PS3 is doing worse than last year?

@DMeisterJ

Sometimes, I´d like to be a fly to sneak into Sony HQ and see how the top executives are reacting to news like this.

DS needs a new version and fast haha. I mean it's oversaturated the market, Nintendo has to have realized this by now.

I don't see it that way at all.  The DS sales worldwide are market leading, so why waste a change now when it is only somewhat apparently necessary in one region (where sales are already massive).  I think Nintendo will wait till sales slow worldwide (or at least until when they think sales *will* slow worldwide).

The PS3 failling in japan would be bad for those of us who want small japanese developers to work with the console.

 japanese developers will still develop for the ps3 due to it's sales in other regions.

 Look at the 360, it's doing abysmally in japan but developers like Team Ninja want to make there next game 360 exclusive, because of America.
