PSP wasn't last in NA this week, the 360 was! By 2,000 but still

Ha, the numbers were all so low I didn't even notice. i just assumed those were the PSP's natural crappy numbers and that the 360 would at least do better. Ouch.

Fila: Yes, it's getting very close. But Gamecube levels would be 5,000 per week or lower. If it steps into that territory, there is little hope for a truly successful console in Japan. The Gamecube, for all its shortcomings, was not all that unsuccessful in the country. It's just that any game that wasn't massively hyped flopped horribly, which is pretty much the same thing we're seeing with the PS3.

Could it be Star Ocean 4 is going through a "landing zone crisis"?....and the rumored Skies of Arcadia 2?

The PS3 is going to fall to Gamecube crisis levels soon. I know that it's really annoying that people say this stuff every week (I was the one who complained about that) but these sales are horrible. We didn't see anything like that in 2007, 'least not that I remember.

I tend to agree on all points, including the fact that it gets hammered perhaps a bit too much.

But this is getting out of hand now, and to answer the question, this is in fact a new low according to VGC data in my spreadsheet:

PS3 Japanese Stats
  LTD 2007 2008
Mean 26,282k 23,435k 20,568k
Median 17,983k 17,586k 14,381k
1st Quartile 12,737k 12,949k 10,600k
IQR 22,949k 12,357k 14,685k
3rd Quartile 35,686k 25,306k 25,285k

It's already below GC levels. If it goes any lower, it will challenge the Dreamcast.

I think PS3 will be like PSP in Japan, a late bloomer.

Maybe, but if these really low numbers continue (only going up for special releases)....couldn´t it create a negative snowball effect that would prevent it from having the same kind of turnaround?

Week 78 for the Gamecube. Maybe for the same time period (GC saw a boost after Week 78, although this should be balanced out by the MGS4 launch.

PS3 will succeed in Japan....might be late though

Well it did have some succesful games there, HSG5, DW6, DMC4, Yakuza, DW Gundam, CoD4, Resistance, Valkyria were all relatively succesful, and not all those games had massive hyping and marketing, the PS3 really needs a healthy flow of Japanese titles there, even though I kind of doubt the PS3 will ever see 5 million units sold in Japan (would love to eat some major crow though).

Thanks to Japan, Wii got over 50% of the marketshare this week too. Daaaaayuuumn.

And yeah, TGS and E3 are both gonna be very funny this year.
