But Gamecube levels would be 5,000 per week or lower. If it steps into that territory, there is little hope for a truly successful console in Japan. The Gamecube, for all its shortcomings, was not all that unsuccessful in the country. It's just that any game that wasn't massively hyped flopped horribly, which is pretty much the same thing we're seeing with the PS3.

Well it did have some succesful games there, HSG5, DW6, DMC4, Yakuza, DW Gundam, CoD4, Resistance, Valkyria were all relatively succesful, and not all those games had massive hyping and marketing, the PS3 really needs a healthy flow of Japanese titles there, even though I kind of doubt the PS3 will ever see 5 million units sold in Japan (would love to eat some major crow though).
