Forums - Gaming - Dissapointments of this generation

I dont see how assassins creed was a dissapointment except it wasnt a ps3 exclusive anymore. Lair on the other hand did bomb becasue you had to rely on just the sixaxis even after sending a patch to use the regular controls it still bombed. Cant say much about blue dragon since it was a hit in japan for the rpg hungry audience-and it wasnt over here because people thought of it as a Final Fantasy clone.

Honestly, I think the only game this generation that hasn't disappointed me on some level is Rock Band.

Orange Box for the PS3 sucked, but then again many ports for the PS3 have at least one problem or another.

Maybe you should play the game, it plays just about the exact same as the 360 one.  There are less then 5 slowdowns during the 3 half lifes.  And the loading time is not that much more,  it is comparable to the extended load times that most 360 games have over the PS3 versions.  TF2 and Portal also ran perfect.

And lost odyssey? It's the first JRPG to do decent numbers on the Xbox 360 in the West? Not to mention it has certainly been profitable given its numbers.

Which numbers?

It's sold 660k, how do you deduce profitability from that?

The revenue is 39.6 million.

Well we generally consider that an HD game needs to sell half a million to be profitable. This game has sold considerably more, and was built with the Unreal Engine 3...............meaning it was 'relatively' cheap.

Linky?

I thought that was entirely false...

A game can generate 30 million in revenue and be profitable?

If it costs $10-15 million to make (GeoW cost $10 million) then why not?  In any case, sales in others also add a substantial premium to the revenue due to higher game prices.

You need to manage your expectations better then.

Why?  $400 - $500 for a system, and $60 games so developers can low-ball it?  I mean maybe you don't believe in ambition, vision, or the will to excel, but for those prices you damn well better believe we expect the industry to believe in those things.

At least I have to give props to Assassin's Creed for trying to elevate in some way.  It's just that Ubisoft's ambition was greater than they're reach.  They had great ideas, but the execution was sloppy.  But I cannot forgive playing it safe this generation.

LOL i've played Orange Box on PS3.

It's HORRENDOUS.  Episode 2's framerate is juggling from the minute you start. Try using the gravity gun, shoot an explosive at the wall, wait 4 whole seconds as the PS3 calculates where all of the objects in the environment should go, then watch the framerate slowly rise from 0.5 FPS back to the 15-25 range.

Team Fortress 2 was absolutely terrible.  It was lagging horrendously.  I tried to play it for about 5 minutes or so, it kept lagging, and then I disconnected.  The game wasn't even worth it using the dual analog.

Honestly.  Before telling people to play the game, how about you play the PC version, and see how this is supposed to be?

This is coming from someone who extensively played the Orange box on PC, and then played it on PS3.

If you had asked last week, I would have said the Wii Virtual Console. This week, however, I have been appeased with the release of the NES' SKYKID.

Other than that, I'd say that the lack of Tali sex scenes in Mass Effect was just criminal.

EDIT:  I also wasn't too happy with Anna Grimsdottir's exclusion from Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

Okami for the Wii was a dissapointment too, at the very least in sales. Beyond that there's no reason they couldn't have included the ending or added an alternate control scheme for the Classic Controller to make this the definative version like RE4 for the Wii was. In the end they just made a compromise of a port.

Will you drop it with the Okami "no credits" bitching?

No one cares!

I'm halfway through the game, and it's one of my favorite Wii games.  There is no need for an alternate control scheme either.  When I complete the game, if I feel I have been short-changed, I will watch whatever credits you constantly bitch about on Youtube.  I have it in my bookmarks, waiting for me.  So all in all, it's not a real problem.

Again, no one cares.
