Forums - General - In what order should Star Wars be watched?

Also, why do you guys hate the new ones? They're good. 3 is my favorite in the series.

Why do we hate the new ones? I won'T say that the old ones were flawless. Quite to the contrary. But they had charm, great actors (and awful ones), personality. Obi Wan, Han Solo, the best bad guy in history and a pervasive aura of greatness. So many cool things in a time when science fiction movies were crap.

Swords fights
Awesome space battles
a bit of Shakespearean drama.
...

And now compare this with the new ones:

Yes Luke Skywalker sucked but he quite believably played an idiotic youth in the first one who was shielded by two great actors Obi Wan and Harrison Ford.

Episode1 had Liam Neeson who obviously didn't care and the most annoying two character's in movie history. The bratty child and Jar Jar Binks. It was a freaking kid movie. This didn't get better with the young Emo-child Annakin in the second and third although they weren't quite as bad.

Yes the city in Episode1 was beautiful, some of the vehicles etc. were great and NAtalie Portman is beautiful but the rest sucked so hard

Some examples:

Sword fights: Why in gods name are Jedi knights suddenly fighting Kung-Fu style. The sword fight between Darth Vader and Luke were so cool why do we have to see Gymnastics. Because this is somehow done in the new millenium? It fits that Jedi have pigtails and the enemy has red tattoos.

Space battles: They sucked. The one in Episode3 was better but before we had the best spaceship ever designed for a movie the Star Destroyer now we have flashy, blurry colors exploding making it hard to see what is going on. Thanks CGI I want the technology from 1980 back.

The ground battle: This had so much potential. And what do we get frog people throwing blue balls. The worst part of the first three movies the Ewoks all over again.

Just some examples. And I think Episode1 showed one thing: CGI is great if you enhance an already good movie. But it sucks donkeyballs when you base your movie on it. Jar Jar is only the most glaring example of it.

Around the Network

I'm in the same boat as most people, 1 2 and 3 were bad movies. The originals are great.

4,5,6... then stop.

Or if you really like action... 3,4,5,6 then stop.

It might be kind of harsh to say that CGI ruined the new movies, but the CGI even when Episode 3 came out wasn't life-like enough or as good-looking as a well built model. A combination of well-built ship models and CGI or whatever probably would have looked better...Episode 3 just ended up looking like a cartoon in the end.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

obviously I, II, III, IV, V, VI

I isn't very good, but II thru VI are good.

Around the Network

i really wished that they started the series at episode 3 and called that episode 1. Then episodes 2 and 3 would have been darth vader wiping out the Jedi Knights.

I don't know why everyone bashes 1, 2 and 3. If you take them as competing with hundreds of other films, they were good films. Obviously nothing will touch the movie-equivalent-of-retro-ness of 4, 5 and 6, but the first three were well written and well made. What else do you want?

Oh, and B. It makes more sense, because actually 4, 5 and 6 make a coherent story arc and 1, 2 and 3 were sort of bolted on. They don't fit together all that well.

Cause 1,2 and 3 ruin 4,5 and 6.  Aside from "Darth Vader made C3P0 and then had his memory erased LOL!"  It created lots of inconsitances that were either just bad writing or just made no sense.  They definitly weren't "written back when the originals were made" like Lucas claims.

I mean, for one thing.  Uncle Owen didn't have his memory erased.  He should of recognized C3PO.

That and the tech looked more hi-tech then the "future" the Empire and rebellion tech.... that was another problem.  The lightsaber fights suddenly going from like... sword fights to matrixy acrobatic matches didn't help much in my opinion either.

4, 5 (twice), and then the last half of 3.

No Jar-Jar, no Ewoks, everybody wins!

You should be hanged for even comparing Jar Jar to the Ewoks. One's a CGI pile of shit, and the other are a bunch of kickass furry midgets, including an 11 year old Warwick Davis's first role ever.

And if you skip 6, you miss all the shit with Jabba the Hutt, Boba Fett, and the Sarlac. And the speeder bike races. But you're right about skipping 1, 2, and the first half of 3.

It's just too hard to kick out the Ewoks and still keep parts of 6.

Personally, the hardest things for me to skip in 6 are "It's a trap!" and all 45 seconds of screen time Nien Nunb enjoys in the movie. That dude just kicks ass, especially that one part where his eyes get really big and his mouth goes agape. Which also happens to be ~40% of his total screen time.

Gotta love those whacky Sullustans.

Yeah... episode 6 does have issues too.... like treetrunks destroying imperial walkers and stick arrows piercing Stormtrooper armor.

What the hell is that armor made out of that sticks pierce it... and why are they even wearing it then?
