Why do we hate the new ones? I won'T say that the old ones were flawless. Quite to the contrary. But they had charm, great actors (and awful ones), personality. Obi Wan, Han Solo, the best bad guy in history and a pervasive aura of greatness. So many cool things in a time when science fiction movies were crap.
Swords fights
Awesome space battles
a bit of Shakespearean drama.
...
And now compare this with the new ones:
Yes Luke Skywalker sucked but he quite believably played an idiotic youth in the first one who was shielded by two great actors Obi Wan and Harrison Ford.
Episode1 had Liam Neeson who obviously didn't care and the most annoying two character's in movie history. The bratty child and Jar Jar Binks. It was a freaking kid movie. This didn't get better with the young Emo-child Annakin in the second and third although they weren't quite as bad.
Yes the city in Episode1 was beautiful, some of the vehicles etc. were great and NAtalie Portman is beautiful but the rest sucked so hard
Some examples:
Sword fights: Why in gods name are Jedi knights suddenly fighting Kung-Fu style. The sword fight between Darth Vader and Luke were so cool why do we have to see Gymnastics. Because this is somehow done in the new millenium? It fits that Jedi have pigtails and the enemy has red tattoos.
Space battles: They sucked. The one in Episode3 was better but before we had the best spaceship ever designed for a movie the Star Destroyer now we have flashy, blurry colors exploding making it hard to see what is going on. Thanks CGI I want the technology from 1980 back.
The ground battle: This had so much potential. And what do we get frog people throwing blue balls. The worst part of the first three movies the Ewoks all over again.
Just some examples. And I think Episode1 showed one thing: CGI is great if you enhance an already good movie. But it sucks donkeyballs when you base your movie on it. Jar Jar is only the most glaring example of it.
