I've been waiting for this game for awhile. It's sad I see it everywhere in Tokyo for like 1000 Yen but I can't read a lick of Kanji. I know I'll be shelling out $40 for this one.

 How on earth could you leave out the best rpg this gen so far, pokemon diamond. I am serious, this game is great.

eek, ASH. Seriously, this is a bad game. At least, that's Japanese gamers' consensus. Japanese game critics like famitsu are incapable of being independent from major publishers, so their endorsement means little. I'm sure many good American people will be dissapointed. I warn you. Play The World Ends with You instead if you haven't already.

You have some inside information that's not anecdotal? 

All the stuff I usually read or hear everyday are from Japanese websites, magazines, and people, so with certain confidence I can say what's generally well perceived over there and what's not.

Well, let's see. One of the major review sites in Japan where users post their feedbacks (the site strictly screens uninformative reviews that are not very objective and are fanboysih) gives it an average score 47 out of 100 with standard deviation of 19, which is "E" in their grade scale. Give it a try still? I adivse you not.

Nah man, I don't know you from Adam. I'll probably wait for the american reviews before a purchase though. User-reviews aren't usually the most informative.

I mean, I live in America and can tell you that Lost Odyssey wasn't the most well recieved game over here, but imo, it was fantastic, so there ya go. 

You seem to not know much about the reliability of Japanese professional game reviewers. Learn Japanese and read tons of game magazines overthere, and then you'll see why Japanese gamers usually closely listen to fellow gamers rather than to mainstream media.

I don't know where you got that info about Lost Odyssey but it received "A" from the review site and was generally hailed among users over there as one of the best games on the platform. Not selling well doesn't mean it wasn't well received, especially given the size of XBOX360 userbase there.

Also, I'm surprised that you seem to believe Kotaku is a reliable source of Japanese gaming information, as their primary source is the guy in Osaka who once reported Sony's massive firing based on some random rumors on 2channnel.

So much for game journalists. But sure. Wait till you read American reviews.
