Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Wii Fit Misleading? Ask a Doctor.

Wii fit will be good as it can start to motivate people to consider their health and begin to do things. You Wii fit fans should actually record and show us other gamers if it does work. My main interest is not if it works or not - but how many people will still be using Wii fit. I'm going to make a thread in a few months to see if people who brought it still use it and if they have lost weight and are fitter and healthier.

The best way to keep fit/lose weight is a well balanced diet and regular exercise. Well that being said I gtta have a healthy brekky and go for my morning walk - in the real world. :P I don't want everything I do in life to be around technology and gaming now do I :P See you in the real world people :P

Hey when are they gunna make Wii-Sex... surely that has to be on the agenda for those gamers who don't have a partner and need some loving. First comes Wii-fit then it has to be Wii-Sex - why look hot doing Wii-fit, if that's all your gunna be :P

OK so according to BMI Mike Tyson(218 5'11.5) and Evander Holyfield(221 6'2.5) would qualify just barely as obese in their prime shape. In EH's case he would only qualify as overweight. No I seriously doubt that there is more than .05% of teh population that every get in the type of shape these two were. I also know that it is possible some people are in less shape and have higher body fat percentage but are still healthy at that BMI but it is still a very insignificant amount of people. So Mummelman if your BMI says you are Obese you may very well need to lose some weight maybe not that much but still you need to think about it or ask a doctor.

Another thing is that after a while your BMI will become irrelevant in so much as the progression of the BMI will become more important. If you start at 28 and end up at 35 at the end of the year it will be more noticeable as opposed to the weight sneaking up on you(especially tall people). There are people who are over 30 percent fat but don't notice it because of the way the body carries it but a uprising trend can indicate the need to take care of a problem before it starts.

Again Overweight is not bad but may need to be checked on but Obese is bad for at least 99.95% of the population. That means that there are some 3 million people out there out of 6 billion who are obese when it comes to their BMI but actual very fit(that is only using the bell curve to list statistical outliers and not an actual number)

BMI is not perfect, but it's way better than weight alone, since it at least takes height into account.

Either way, it's a game that tells you both your BMI and weight, and lets you set goals and keep track of your progress over time. I don't see how you can complain about that.

This "doctor" recommends walking 500 extra steps per day instead of playing Wii Fit. I don't get it. There's a fucking jogging exercise on here for shit's sake. You can do that, some aerobics, some yoga, some push-ups, and work on your balance to have better posture (my main problem at the moment.)

I played for half an hour so far today, and now my roommate's playing Galaxy. I'm gonna get back into Wii Fit when he's done later, and finish up my routine.

Anyway, Wii Fit is already a success for one reason: I did yoga today. That is a huge success.

Ok I just read the manual for Wii Fit. On page 13 there are warnings that the BMI measurements will be inaccurate if you're under 19 years old or super buff. So anybody whining about that should shut up.

just tracking weight alone would have been a really bad idea. If Wii Fit displayed your weight every day it would have been a big turnoff for people, from the presentations at various evens it seems that a huge reason they used BMI was just so people didn't have to reveal their weight.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I see no purpose in interviewing someone clearly unfamiliar with the software who already has a predetermined agenda (Her paycheck comes from 3 other weightloss programs). Even if she was familiar with the way WiiFit worked, she wouldn't have supported it, and because she wasn't Gamespy used the opportunity to lead her to the answers they wanted with one-sided and misleading questions. Kinda sad.

Pathetic was my word...but "sad" works too...

Any time people are becoming active and involved with their health a doctor should stand up and applaud. Good things happen when people get involved in their health and fitness but somehow she sees only bad things.
