Forums - Sony - do you think Sony is holding back some titles due to.......

The funny thing is, over the last few months we've had far more reports of PS3's failing than 360's.  Whilst Microsoft is clearly showing success in bringing their failure rate down (to the point that I haven't heard a single example of a post-October manufactured console Rroding), the PS3 is proving to be poorly receptive to software updates, certain games (GTAIV, AC) and disk errors.

Wasn't there an Xbox that got the RRoD at a Microsoft event a few months back, and also, wasn't there a thread here about someone wanting to review GTAIV but the 360 got RRoD?

While I've heard software updates being an issue for a few PS3 owners, I haven't heard stories that their PS3 did in fact break down completely as a result.

This is BORING.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Well first I'd like to throw in the phrases "delaystation 3" and "domination delayed."
There are enough games out now for the systems that delays don't really effect anyone, but at least the PS3 won't be in a shop anytime soon so you can play the games that are already out. I'd just needed to remind everyone of that for no reason at all. As others have said, though, 360 games get delayed a lot, too, heh.

Hah, ok, dude. Keep telling yourself that.

Why tell myself, when I can READ to myself?

There was an Rrod atGDC (i know because I started the thread on it).  Do you have some sort of evidence that that was one of the relatively new 360's?  Look at my previous post for examples of PS3's shutting down, some of which did so after Sony's relatively short warranty period............

starcraft: when someone gets a RROD, it's not news anymore. It's just fact.

Ah yes of course.  Your lack of evidence is proof in and of itself...........

Yes, that makes sense. The PS3 only has to significantly outperform the 360 at this point of time, Sony sold 1.85 million more PS3s than Microsoft sold 360s in an equal timeframe by March 2008.

The Nintendo Wii is a very different product which can easily co-exist with the PS3 within people's homes in the future. If Sony would have aimed to outsell the Wii, it would have put them into serious financial problems. Now the costs are under control well enough so that Sony tripled profits for its last fiscal year (PS3 also pushing more HDTV and Blu-Ray movie sales). The profitable PS2 sold well (much better than the 360) last year, this to compensate significantly for their PS3 market investments.

The PS3 is really built for a long term future, its processor holds more performance potential than even the top workstation targeted Xeon processors (this at much less wattage). It will also take a while until Blu-Ray drives are standard within the PC market. Expect Sony to push the PS3 much more when a cheaper profitable slimline PS3 is ready.

The current PS3 did what it had to accomplish at this point, win Sony the Blu-Ray format war, quickly reducing the 360's headstart sales advantage and push developers towards more efficient and powerful game engine design.

The current PS3 paves the way for the success of a future slimline PS3 and eventually a new Cell technology based PS4.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Why would they want to use an old 360, especially with all the RRoD news all around them? I don't think it would be so far-fetched as to think Microsoft would have used a newer model, but if that's not the case, then they really are idiotic. Yes, it's a lose-lose situation: Newer model gets RRoD, someone thought it appropriate to use an older model.

So here are your proofs of the PS3 hardware failures that are similiar to the 360's RRoD:

1.) Freezing which was apparent on both the PS3 and 360, which the threadmaker himself said;

2.) Save problem with a different region game;

3.) Rockstar blaming PS3 hardware;

4.) Rockstar now taking the blame.

The last two, on the otherhand, are legit.

i think that SCE is running out of money and that's why they delayed games, because if they would release all games in 2008 and 2009 they would have problems with having exclusive games for next couple of years and now:
they will release some anounced games in 2008
delayed games that were sheduled for 2008 will be released in 2009
games that were sheduled to 2009 will be released in 2010
sony will wait now to make some profit on ps3(or minimize the loss) and will make some new games thanks to that profit cause right now sony doesn't have money to make new games and they can't release all the big exclusive hitters when they can't afford some new projects.
