Forums - Nintendo - IGN gives Wii Fit a 8.0 WOW WHAT HAPPENED to core reviewers these days?

Exactly what's wrong with the score?

Around the Network

That is a really good score for something as unconventional as WiiFit.

Yeah reviewing a "game" like this is incredibly hard. I mean, how are you supposed to rate it? There's nothing to compare it against, really. Yeah, there's Wii Sports, but that's not the same. And obviously graphics and sound hardly matter in WiiFit. Soooo... hard, yes. :p
All in all I must say that I'm actually surprised by the score. I was kind of expecting them to give it a lower score.

People seem to expect 9s and 10s for every hyped game released. Its unrealistic to think that everything will. 8 is a really good score and people should be happy with it. I've been saying for years that games aren't judged harshly enough.

Clings to misleading BMI and lacks bells and whistles where graphics and audio are concerned.

The BMI is perfectly fine for adults, and is almost never a misleading measure. Even if you are athletic and well muscled, it still applies, and in that case, you can still be within your healthy range. The range is plenty large.

If you are an adult and you think the BMI is misleading, you are probably in denial about your own shape.

[edit] it seems people like to use examples like professional football players, who litterally add 30% to their body weight in  muscle.  There are two issues here: these people are almost certainly using HGH to attain this amount of mass, and the BMI is still relevant in that muscle weight is approximately as taxing on your heart as fat weight, pound for pound.  Despite the fact that you may not want to lose the muscle weight, you can still be over weight.

IGN is simply incorrect.

From a purely entertainment website like IGN, an 8.0 is a good score.

Remember who their audiance is, from a PURELY gaming perspective, can you expect much more than that?

Exactly.

I have never understood why Nintendo gamers feel that reviewers need to learn how to review "casual" games, or apply a different standard to them. A very large majority of the target audience for "casual" games are not reading the review anyway and therefore it makes no sense to write reviews directed to them.

8 is a good score for the game. In fact it's a very good score. I cannot imagine why anyone could complain about Wii Fit receiving that score (unless they thought it was too high).

"The BMI is perfectly fine for adults, and is almost never a misleading measure. Even if you are athletic and well muscled, it still applies, and in that case, you can still be within your healthy range. The range is plenty large."

BMI is an awful measure of health that is almost entirely useless. It is of practically no relevance to almost anyone who is healthy and in reasonably good shape. It is worth noting that I can say this whilst completely disregarding the likes of athletes.

BMI is quite simply a superficial measure of health, it unambigiously fails to analysis the complexity of issues that make up ones health. In gaming terms it would be like measuring a games greatness by its back cover without ever checking its content by playing. In short, it's quite stupid.

7.0Presentation
A robust list of exercises and mini-games, easy to navigate menus, and on-screen instructors. Clings to misleading BMI and lacks bells and whistles where graphics and audio are concerned.
5.0Graphics
Simple. Basic. Will not seem daunting to newcomers. There's polish to the graphics, but they also border on the generic side.
6.0Sound
Crisp, clean voice commands from on-screen instructors and the music is fitting. The instructions, though, are repeated too often.
8.0Gameplay
Great fun and a great workout at the same time. Not at all gimmicky. You will feel the burn and wake up sore the next morning.
9.0Lasting Appeal
More than 40 different challenges and, like any exercise program, you will keep coming back, again and again.

So, did you read the review? Or just the scores? Because its pretty well laid out why it got what it did.

If you didnt read the review, may I suggest never posting on an internet forum again until you learn to get all your facts lined up before hand?

I posted only the scores because its too long to post the 2 pages of it, and I post what i post because its unlikely for core reviewers  score a casual game an 8. Its like this, do you want carnival games to score an 8? Most people who buy and play the game says its fun but core gamers says otherwise,

Then will you please explain how Wario Ware has a review average over an 8. It is just a mini game collection.

Then care to explain why Wii Sports have a score of 7.5 and Wii Play have a score of 5.5 then, even with the free wii remote? Like I said, core reviewers hardly make casual games a score of 8. And the Warioware review just proves it, do you know that Wii Sports have the most nominee and won the most innovative game of 2007 in the last Bafta awards? Most innovative game, gives a score of 7.5 while a niche game like Wario Ware gives a score of 8, LOL.

Now for your post, do you know that Rayman raving Rabbids scored an 8.3 3 points higher than Wii Fit even its only just a minigame compilation cash in made by Ubi? LOL WUT? O_o Anyway, I've played part 2 and it just bore me within days and I never buy the first one since part 2 was just a rehash of the first one with updated graphics. (Which means its just the same game)

Now you see what I mean?
