Forums - Gaming - How can you know the fps or 480p/576p/720p/1080p/1080i by looking at it?

LOL @ the Mario Kart Wii test. I honestly didn't notice that much difference in split screen. I guess I'll have to look closer tonight. The Blue shells must be blocking my vision. 4p split is obviously much lower quality though but it's so much fun you tend to forget about it pretty quickly anyway.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

As I said, I haven't heard of offline splitscreen being 30 fps except on this thread. If you try online splitscreen, I guarantee you'll notice a huge difference. Even people who only recently started playing games can notice it (i.e. my girlfriend).

From an analysis of GTA IV, it show that Xbox 360's avg framerate is 32, PS3 is 29.

Some of the people say that earlier console can easily run as 60 fps, is that true?

How about portable handheld? Is that a different method to measure them?

No, sloppy coding, unflexible hardware and not to mention incredibly poor feeds and TV sets (AC cables and 50Hz only TV's outside of NA mostly up until the late 90's).

It could possibly be done, but overall looks or sound must have been sacrificed, and I can't say I remember any games before the late PS1/N64 era that even supported 60Hz (PAL is still 50Hz on SD). I'm not the final authority on this, but I'm fairly up to date and tech savvy. Feel free to point and stare if I'm blatantly wrong though!

Here is a question, say you are running COD4 at 1080p on the 360. Now we know COD4 runs at 60fps, but does it run the same frame rate if it is upscaled on the console? Is it still 60fps at 1080p upscaled?

AFAIK the 360 upscales in hardware, so I don't see any reason for the game to stop rendering at 60 fps just because the console is set to 1080p.

It is funny. I see some slowdown sometimes on-line on MK Wii -- both solo and when I play with my son. It is like playing in a dreamworld.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I never noticed any slowdown, but I did notice 3 or 4 occurences of very slight camera jumpiness in weird spots of the tracks (out of many hours of gameplay). By weird spots I mean directly facing an obstacle from very near, for example. It only lasts for a few tenths of second though.
