Forums - Sales - DS: SIX 15-million sellers?!

For a while now we’ve known that DS was going to rack up a record SEVEN 10-million selling games.

But now it looks like six of those seven could reach the 15-million mark!

Nintendogs
Already shipped 15M and on its way to 20M and higher

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
14.77M shipped through March
9.56M shipped last fiscal year

New Super Mario Bros.
14.16M shipped
4.66M last year

Brain Training
12.98M shipped
5.28M last year

More Brain Training
10.83M shipped
6.53M last year

Mario Kart DS
10.45M shipped
3.42M last year

The first four titles are obviously locks. For MK, with “only” 3M+ sold last year, it will take 2 years to reach the mark. More Brain Training is being outcharted by the original Brain Training in many territories, and may also take more than a year to reach the mark.

But even if MBT and MKDS fell short of the mark, four 15-million sellers would match Game Boy, and two of those were pack-ins. GBA and PS2 only had one game this popular each, and PS1 had none.

The big seven are awesome, and all still selling amazing, I agree with you with the 15 million sellers, at least Pokemon, NSMB and Nintendogs are secure.

Greatest handheld console evah.

That is an impressive statistic.

Wow. I hadn't even thought about this super elite club of 10 million and 15 million sellers that the DS totally owns. I'm never wasting time counting 1 million or 5 million sellers ever again. The DS just won the universe in my eyes all over again.

Remember when people doubted the DS? That's just really cute now.

Good stuff considering I have none of those games :) I will buy NSMB, though.

this gen is painfull , so so painfull..

MKDS launched at the end of 05. 6 weeks in the year only. It sold 2.4M during those weeks. During the next year (2006) 3.8M and ended at 6.22M. During the next year it sold 3M and ended at 9.3M. This year, it has already sold 1.3M and is at 10.6M.

Over the same 20 weeks that it has sold 1.3M this year, it sold about 1M last year. The reason for this is that people bought MKWii and MKDS, and therefore it has a boost. This boost is going to keep going for some time, giving it a fair boost. I expect MKDS to sell around 3.5M in 2008, totalling 12.8M by 1.1.2009.
Whether or not it now is able to sell 2.2M in 2009, depends on whether there comes a new handheld from Nintendo, but I see no reason for anything but a new model, so I think it should make it fairly easy, perhaps ending its life at close to 16M.

MBT launched at the beginning of 07 in and Japan, 7 months later in Europe and 1 month after that again in the states.

First year Japan it sold fantasticly 3.7M! Second year it only sold 1.2M, so don't expect sales to be huge this year in Japan. Sales could be as low as 500K

In Europe, it sold 900K in the 15 weeks before christmas times, and 2 million around then! In the next 20 weeks it sold 800K more, so we can expect 800 more K before christmas, and maybe a million around christmas, but let's say 700K to be on the secure side.

In America, it sold 500K before christmas, 1M during it, and 600K after. We should see 400K more, and then perhaps 500K during Christmas, but let's say 400K.

That makes 1.5M Europe, 800K America, and 500K Japan. Total will be around 3M, leaving it at 14.11M. It has a change at 15M before 09, but not a big one. It should easily make 15M later though.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Another crazy stat:

The top ten games on DS have already sold 106.45M copies combined.

PS2's top ten should be around 100-101M. There are incomplete sales for at least one game and I believe one missing game in the VGC database.

Without pack-ins, GBs top ten sold 112.74M. With pack-ins, 150.94M.

For NES, 122.78M with pack-ins. About half that without!
