This question is strictly out of curiosity. I'm not trying to upse anyonet or rain on their parade. Why is it that PS3 fans and Xbox 360 fans frequent talk about domination and winning when they are, of course, talking about the struggle for 2nd place. I realize that this is the only interesting race left; the other being pretty much over but it just struck me odd that the title was "Will 2008 be Playstation 3's Year of Domination" not "Will 2008 be the Year of Playstation 3's Domination of the XBox."

ps3 will overtake 360 mid 2009 and i cant wait for that to happen, i have bets with freinds you see.

i agree, it is essentially a second place race and will remain so for quite some time(at least).ninty isnt even looking at the rear-view right now
so people should refrain from from words like domination
but yes, PS3 should easily overtake 360 next year(due to increased japan sales)

it will overtake 360 in 09, i do think that 08 will play a big part in that though

Errr... mmmmmm, nop, a good year, yes, but Sony needs two miracles to catch up with the 360 this year, at the end of the year is going to be around 4 or 3 millions behind in the best case scenario...

About Japan :

- Nothing will put an end to the PS3 bad sales in Japan. Sales will increase in some time point (price drop/AAA title) but wil stay really lower than Wii sales.

- No, the PS3 DOES NOT need Japan to beat the Xbox360 sales. PS3 is outselling the Xbox360 whatever you count Japan or not. Nevethless, Japan sales will help the global move from +10 to +30k (maybe 1 or 2 +50k).

Japan is waiting for MGS 4 and FF 13. Then PS3 sales will pick up in Japan.


The MGS series isn't nearly as big in Japan as it is in the west. By the time the FFXIII hits in 2009 it will be too late for the PS3 in Japan. FFXIII will be just like The Ocarina of Time was for the N64. It will sell very well but do little to change the consoles fate in Japan.
