4.000 is like nothing =p, Well soon we will know how it sold :).

i always hav doubts for GTA4 as system seller, because its multiplatformed. I guess Microsoft doesnt plan to sell as many 360s as possible with GTA4, their main priority is to stop GTA4 to become ps3's system seller.
So they have succeded, ps3 didnt have a super boost on hardware.
So MGS4 will b their 1st potential system seller since the launch of ps3. OMG IT TAKES THEM SO LONG to have one. It better sells some ps3 already for god sake
If Canada is 10% of US market
then 40K in US + usual sales of 70K = 110K...
@FishyJoe.
I agree there won't be a massive spike in sales for MGS, but I think it could be more of a rise than some think. Keep in mind MGS is very popular in Japan so it should have some effect over there and depending on how much, it could really have an impact on WW sales. 2nd unlike GTA (Although GTA is huge), MGS is an actual exclusive. I think exclusives have more of an impact on sales than multi platform titles. I COULD see MGS doing over 400 units for the PS3 on launch week. I did not predict that many, but it is plausable. Honestly the game I think people are actually overlooking is SOcom. It's a very large, diehard, fanatical community that is still going very strong on the PS2. I have talked to allot of those guys and they still are on the PS2 waiting on a PS3 version of the game. In the end i believe one title doesn't spark sales, rather than many titles. MGS should give Sony continued growth.

I think you missed my point. That being sell outs of limited special editions isn't a great indicator for massive sales.
It may sell great and there could be a huge upswing in sales. However it's too early to tell and this kind of data isn't a reliable indicator.
No I got your point and even agree with you, but I think anyone that didn't think MGS on't push Consoles well over it's normal rate of sale is being foolish. It is a big time seller with a long PS tradition. it will definately push consoles, just not as many as some people might think (anything much more than 400k the first week is just being completely unrealistic) I suspect it will sell some consoles throughout June.
Then why are you arguing with me for something I never said?

Actually, I'm talking about the European numbers, since the GTAIV bundle was only available there AFAIK. While we did see a decent rise in sales, there certainly wasn't a massive spike in sales. And neither VGC or NPD showed a massive spike in sales. So even if May sales improve, it's probably not going to be anywhere near what some people predicted. I'm not saying there won't be a good rise in sales for MGS4, but if anything is to be learned, you shouldn't count your chickens before they are hatched. Especially some of the bigger fanboys were way off, see the GTAIV is the death of the Wii thread for reference. |
Hardware sales spiked a lot more in UK than in US:
GTA IV week sales spike:
US: 360 +54%
UK: 360: +125%, PS3: +127%

What part of my statement are you not understanding?
